Despite having really low expectations, Obsession is a hell of a horror film. I feel like it's planted a parasite in my brain. If that sounds good to you, recommended.

I would argue that they are not nerds, they are emotionally immature men, recipients of inherited wealth built on exploitation, cosplaying as nerds. For example, nerds are often intelligent.

If the web is a democratic project, capital and LLMs are a force to undermine that. To the capitalist, the early days of the web, of any kind of computing that a person could create or alter themselves, were a kind of wild west, an unexploitable landscape. Automating this kind of work, and making that automation expensive is a way of "correcting" that, of literally seizing the means of production away from the riffraff.

If I search "how to fix a washing machine" most, if not all, results are pages trying to sell me washing machines, the services of a plumber, or an article that looks useful at first but turns out to meander around anything concrete. Capital works like misinformation, to make it harder for us to find what we're looking for, or in this case, to alter the purpose of the web, to make it a shopping mall.

I would add to this, the web (and things like Wikipedia) was a successful attempt to make useful information more accessible, but in the years since, capital has drowned its usefulness in commerce and now LLM soup.
