@MisterSmith@mastodon.social @cmccullough@polymaths.social before deciding to use brave you should know that the founder funds bigots, the project is (obviously) all in on crypto and more. I don't have time to add receipts right now, anyone feeling up for that?

@condret@fedi.absturztau.be @mttaggart@infosec.exchange @nohhue@mastodon.social copyright is vested in a work at creation in most jurisdictions without requiring registration. You do not have the right to make copies without a grant of those rights. Courts have found some implicit grant of rights because by putting content online you imply that people can copy it for the purpose of viewing the webpage. Google successfully defended the position that by indexing a page it was assisting in that process, but giving publishers a mechanism to opt out with robots.txt was a part of that. If courts were to be consistent that would absolutely not apply to scraping the content and training a large language model with it. If the law were applied with equal vigor to OpenAI et al. that it was to LimeWire, cd.com etc. then they would owe more than the total amount of money in existence. (IANAL, I lived through the era while working in a job that had copyright aspects)

@seldo@alpaca.gold what would be the key implementation differences between what we have now and this system? Or are you thinking something completely different?

What would be a good neologism/portmanteau for so annoyed you're now amused? Amnoysed?

@theleftistlawyer can I ask which thing you're abolishing in that list? Not salient to your (valid) point, I'm just wondering.

@Meyerweb I spent some time publishing info with XSLT:FO.

I wish one could arrange content in columns that are the height of the screen so you can:

  • use the entire window for content, not a thin column down the middle;
  • not have to scroll up and down if the columns are taller and;
  • not have the column of text so wide it's uncomfortable to read.

Do you remember a newspaper that was online in the early 00s that arranged content in columns and scrolled sideways? I think it had "Christian" in the name? International Christian something?

@timbray@hachyderm.io @davew@mastodon.social @bosak@flx.masto.host I loved namespaces - when they worked. They tended to be poorly supported and not well documented.
