I think the last time I was excited about something WotC did with D&D was during the playtests for what would become 5.0 at Gen Con. My group had rebelled against 4e and I was excited to see D&D resembling what I knew from earlier editions.

I remember being OUTRAGED at this book as a teenager for how much of a blatant ripoff it was. I never read anything by McKiernan after.

These modules look terribly on rails now... but they seemed innovative at the time. It was something other than "there is a hole in the ground with stairs going down. Go!"
I used to own the whole set but gave them away...
The Internet is mostly shit these days, but every once in a great while I stumble across an incredible, passion-project website.
This one is hand-animated weird art and it is worth your time as a fun decompressing thing in between your doomscrolling sessions.
