I keep wondering what I am doing with my life. Why I am entertaining my family at all, if immigrating anywhere will require 1-2 years of straight effort (= experience and money). They're boomers who have all their money from real estate gains and an easier world. They never learn more about anything and just keep treating children like things are still the same. World's different and, maybe I won't die in this different world, I don't know, shrug...

I don't know. I guess I just have to get invited as a worker so that I don't have to be a millionaire. Better somehow accrue new skills solidly in my 30s and 40s, while also knowing how to be a good immigrant.
Maybe you'll say instead of seeking citizenship somewhere, I should be content with my Malaysian citizenship. Sure, but there's a lot of rumours that the current government will not last and power will all go to insufferable (= fascist) compatriots. Citizenship won't be worth that much then, if every city ends up with the economic conditions of Kuching

Like if Japan ever completely closes its borders and I still want to go there for some reason, and citizenship/permanent residency/visa by way of spouses is still a thing for some reason, it is cheaper for me to accrue tons of money to then marry someone, than to accrue several times further to buy my way in.
The whole situation is just bizarre and makes me think about how the world would be like if people were forced to be in their country of birth - either it'd result in revolts or just mass death from conditions. Or some weird existence where everyone worships their leadership because said leadership negotiated some agreement whatever that secured bla bla food and exports which prevents the economy from killing everyone, all kingship style

Not to mention the landscape of migration in the world right now is absolutely nothing like what the borders want (namely imperial-style isolationism).
There's tonnes of people running away from their country's conditions, or trying to make ends meet financially through other countries, which is why they're forcibly going through whatever jank illegal half-legal trafficking whatever mechanism ever to get themselves into countries.
And they're literally succeeding, unless you implement North Korea style enforcement. You get this weird thing where immigrants are either of dubious legality or extremely rich, no in between

I almost find it hard to blame illegal immigrants and haphazard legal migrants, because the way national borders are implemented in the world, it's seriously esoteric how to even legally immigrate.
The premise of every border is to only let in people that are desired by the state for exactly the period that is tolerated, but that results in inconsistency and verboseness and extreme sums of money if you are not such a highly-desired person.

It is hard to find information. For example, this very readable website by the government of Canada also only mentions the fees for document submissions itself, not the sums of money needed to actually be approved under any category.
『Citizenship and immigration application fees - Fee list』
https://ircc.canada.ca/english/information/fees/fees.asp
『Canada Business Immigration: The Ultimate 2026 Guide』
https://www.globalcitizensolutions.com/canada-business-immigration/
『Immigrate as a provincial nominee』
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/provincial-nominees.html
I just used the online wizard for Ontario's one, and can't find a price estimate because it seems the program is closed for anyone who doesn't have Canadian education and/or isn't a nurse. But I'm aware that you're supposed to have several hundred thousand in Canadian dollars

Video by someone who trusts 30 million yen is an appropriate fee for enterprise visas (matching the US and Singapore apparently*). For context, 30mil JPY is 740k MYR, or 200k USD - you basically have to be a millionaire.

I don't know where they got the 11 million yen figure for Singapore from. I tried to use a search engine, and sites for the US and Singapore only cite small-scale application fees and claim immigration towards permanent residency should cost within the thousands.
