In this new article, Agnes Liminga and I explored data activism discourses revealing two distinct strands: social justice advocates vs. established elites. This division raises questions about who is truly driving the data justice agenda https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/20539517241266416

My latest article "Tracing Class and Capitalism in Critical AI Research," with co-authors Petter Ericson and Roel Dobbe, reveals that while race and gender are commonly discussed in Critical AI Studies, class and capitalism issues are less prevalent, confined to a niche subfield. This highlights the need for integrating political economy critiques into AI research to fully address its socio-economic, ecological, and political implications.

In this article, published today, me and lead author Emma Östin conducted a systematic, cross-national analysis using the Twitter Parliamentarian Database to examine how politicians in 10 countries use activism-related hashtags. Our research revealed that politicians may support, renegotiate, or even question the intent behind these hashtags, often aligning them with party-political ideologies or engaging with them in a way that subverts their original meaning.

Published today: @socmerrill@sciences.social's, Mattias Gardell's and my article on how 'the left' meme, focusing on the intriguing realm of r/DankLeft. We have analysed ~400 memes to uncover the themes, the role of taboo, and the emotional responses they provoke https://doi.org/10.1177/14614448241232144

This came in the mail today! Mine and @moaerikssonkrut@sciences.social’s new book on researching digital media and society. Developing and adapting these methods has been a collaborative journey, both with us at @digsum@sciences.social, and in the much wider community of like-minded scholars, nationally and internationally. We are crazy excited to now have been able to package it all in a fun book for undergrads and upward! 🐶📊🔍

At the beginning of my datascience journey (~2011) a developer helped me code a rudimentary but quite powerful app for mixed-methods network text analysis. I have now rebuilt Textometrica from scratch in #Python #Streamlit https://github.com/simonlindgren/textometrica2023 Enjoy!
