Turns out they don’t know “I’m on a boat” and now I’m over here turning into a pile of dust

@PetraOleum@cloudisland.nz the current system (http://www.emergencyalert.gov.au) is SMS based and had massive issues with delayed receiving (some as late as 2 weeks) or not being received at all during the 19/20 fire season. Australia also doesn’t require verification of SMS sender ID, so yeah.
The one benefit it has, and the stated reason Queensland aren’t going to use AusAlert, is it can also automatically call landlines.

Are people still receiving AusAlert or is it already doing better with regards to timely distribution than the existing 0444444444 SMS-based system that couldn’t handle the 2019/20 fire season?

And then I’m the one that got a talking to for calling doing so condescending. Not the person talking to me like I’m not human.

No one is brave enough to do a faithful adaptation of Lord of the Rings to any sort of screen. I want to know what Frodo did for the 17 years between Bilbo leaving The Shire and when he left.

Love how it’s now taking me a lot longer to respond to internal briefs because of the massively increased cognitive load of LLM-generated prose.
Just write it yourself, will actually be way more understandable.

Get to explain to work that just because we store data in Australia, using Azure means that it's still subject to US law.
This is going to be "fun”

Doing a code review of some slop. I point out issues that could be addressed, slop machine just deletes all their changes instead.

@owen@mastodon.transneptune.net @ultranurd@tacobelllabs.net I've been waiting for something like this ever since they got VC funding. Then all the recent releases have been almost exclusive AI "features”.
This timeline sucks.

Get to find out how my teachers handle not being able to get at any of the class content that's store in Canvas today.
Could be a very short class.

Our car is probably totalled (the car was only worth ~$2k). Everyone's safe and uninjured, but could have really done without needing to deal with this.

Though having “Your data stays in NZ" on a page that tries to load Google's tracking crap is suss
