@lucasfigueiredo@mastodon.social @_inside@mastodon.social It gates regulatory features Apple is legally required to offer in specific regions: alternative app marketplaces, third-party payment processors, and browser/default app choice screens. These are mandated by the EU’s Digital Markets Act, Japan’s Mobile Software Competition Act, and a Brazilian antitrust agreement with CADE. Your Apple ID country or region setting doesn’t matter. iOS determines your actual physical location using a combination of GPS, nearby Wi-Fi access point country codes, and your SIM card’s mobile country code. So if you’re in Brazil with a local SIM or Brazilian Wi-Fi, it’ll detect that regardless of your account being US-based. There’s also a grace period system: if your device decides you’ve left one of those regions, you get 30 days before the features are restricted. Apps you already downloaded from alternative marketplaces keep working, but stop receiving updates. Once the grace period ends, you’d need to physically be back in the region to reset the clock.

@JetSetIlly ok fair dos. Though I see you’re using glm-4.7-flash for the model which Anthropic haven’t optimised Claude Code to work with so it could be an incompatibility. And being a local model, it could be a bit weak compared to real Claude models. Have you tried your local model with OpenCode? https://opencode.ai It’s more suited to non-proprietary models.

@JetSetIlly which tools are you trying? As someone who has never failed to use Claude Code for a programming task, I find a zero success rate really hard to believe. I know how to write the software manually. I’ve done it for almost 40 years! But AI has changed what I get to focus on. I can worry about the finicky details of how something works without worrying quite so much about all the boilerplate that enables my choices.

@katemorley@hachyderm.io I assume you’re looking for boots specifically, but if you’re open to alternatives, I would recommend Skechers as a brand for comfort. Lots of fully synthetic options.

@Enfors@mastodon.social @Daojoan@mastodon.social yes I know that’s a risk. Tell Microsoft because that’s how their authentication works. Anyway, how much more of a risk is it to know an email has an account on the site? Usually accounts are targeted because the malicious actor already knows the account email they want to get in to. And you can identify if an account exists by trying to sign up for a new one and being told it already exists. I don’t believe there’s a leak of information happening here.

@Daojoan@mastodon.social don’t even separate the two. Ask for someone’s email address. If it exists, then ask for the password, otherwise take them through the registration process.

@marcoarment@mastodon.social I would say unlikely. For all that AI can do, the one thing it doesn’t do well is run in resource limited environments. Edge computing is still a thing and needs to be super efficient. But for the vast majority of software engineering, maybe there is little point in making them easier for human coders to work with.

@nygl @marcedwards yes it’s to give the impression of the icons floating. You can “see past” the icons when you move the phone. They do the same with your photos if you enable the option on them. I was going to say that the effect is not responsible for the misalignment but I’ve thought for a second and realised that to get the effect you have to make the icons slightly larger and more spread out from each other. The docked icons do not move so it could be the reason. However I went into Settings -> Accessibility -> Motion and turned on Reduce Motion which stops the icon parallax effect. The icons are still misaligned. 😒

@marcedwards @globex oh yeah definitely. My point was that the parallax is not new. The icon misalignment is new and it’s unrelated to parallax.

@marcedwards @globex they’ve been doing that since the iPhone 5. I remember it being introduced as a way of making it feel like the icons are floating above the wallpaper.

@nygl @marcedwards this appears to be about the iPhone OS specifically which has portrait only layout and always a maximum of 4 icons in the dock.
