@krig@goto.liten.app if you don't mind being niche, you could check out fossil (https://fossil-scm.org/home/doc/trunk/www/index.wiki) it's not git, but it's similar enough (decentralized version control with branches and stuff), and has a wiki, forum, bug tracker, etc integrated into the repo. it's criminally underrated

I keep hearing how LLMs are maybe bad for a lot of stuff but actually great for translation
I also keep seeing a lot of very bad translations for basic phrases, eg on amazon a "product card" is "fiszka produktu" ("product's flashcard")
probably no connection there. for sure not a case of gell-mann amnesia

@munificent@mastodon.social even if we assume there *is* utility in here, personally I don't see much value in things that have some utility but no meaning. not everything needs to be cost optimized, I'm not a shareholder ;)

@munificent@mastodon.social I agree with a lot that you wrote, especially about the time & effort's relation to meaning. however, I think you're being too charitable to AI in this post. the assumption is that the utility is there - that using AI is actually faster, or you can get a better result in the same time. or that the generated code has more value (err, utility) than mental models in people's heads. I don't see it in the industry at large (where are all the new apps? [1]), and I don't see it in studies [2] (at least the ones not sponsored by microsoft/openai/whatever). I get it that it's smart to assume that The New Model will solve everything in a few weeks. as it's always claimed, but.. do you really want to believe in that?
