I hope that has AI companies raise their prices to cover the real cost as VC money dries up that the local AI story evolves somewhere fun. I always hate the thin client periods of tech and love the powerful local machine periods. Because I love owning and playing with computers. I hope we make it to that point where every year a new computer saves literal minutes to hours of your day without being a rent seeking game.

I don’t exactly feel this way about GitHub. But man do I feel this way a lot these days about other products.

Seriously I tried so hard to find the proof this was a joke but I think it's a serious commentary. With comments ranging from "true" to "what about BTC"...

Godaddy has been on a downward spiral a decade or more. So I know this isn't new. But I just can't believe how bad it has gotten.

Because of my position many friends and relatives ask me about AI — Specifically if it is conscious (it isn’t) or if it will be soon (I doubt it).

I normally start by explaining to the best of my ability how LLMs and the scaffolding around them work.

The end is always the same. A depressing realization that either a probability algorithm is all it takes to match consciousness (it isn’t) or that it is all it takes to be convincing. Either the human brain is a commodity or that easy to fool.

@marcoarment@mastodon.social I was once paying Cloudflare $80k a year. I never got faster than week long support and rarely from trained individuals. I no longer pay Cloudflare.

One thing that doesn’t seem to be improving is AirPod range. I love my AirPods but if I leave my phone on a table or on the charger I can’t even walk around my house reliably. Range seems to be 10-20ft and 20 is only with direct open line of sight.

@david @ZS @siracusa it isn’t safari’s fault but it is the reality. Most developers don’t test their site across browsers and only use chrome. Many frameworks don’t work on safari or specifically use chrome proprietary features. 2 out of 3 bank websites I visit daily only work in chrome and proudly tell me safari is not supported. I run into this constantly. Government and public education software are the worst offenders in my experience.

@david @siracusa every single student and teacher who buys the MacBook Neo to use school software that is designed not to work in any browser except Chrome.

@siracusa yea but which one has enough ram to open chrome? Will Google Docs even run in 8Gb of ram?

@chockenberry Ring monetizing the mistake where everyone’s live cameras and recordings were in a public S3 bucket was not on my bingo card.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I think it’s just because of where events can potentially show. Apple can choose to promote the event on the Today and Apps Tabs but of course that is human currated and limited real estate. Otherwise it’s only shown your product page and search. So at best there it might close the deal but it’s not bringing in new people really.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social in my experience they only help because it doubles your odds of Apple featuring you. If your event gets picked up and added to a list or something it helps. Otherwise it does almost nothing. In App Store Connect you can find analytics for things like product page views and downloads from specific events.

@vandal @stroughtonsmith it might be important to know that Apple does not use real devices for reviews despite their constant gaslighting to pretend they do. We regularly get screenshots obviously from simulators. We have even had times where we respond and say it works only on device but not in simulator because CloudKit and they angrily respond “we always test on device” then approve the build with no further notes lol. So if it works on your iPad Pro running iOS26 don’t assume it’s your bug.

@stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social I didn’t want to believe this. I thought was just getting too old to understand the new paradigm. But I think you’re right. UIKit is just better. It isn’t perfect and has its warts but it’s just so good.
