@Jeremiah The ability to fully participate in swedish society:
Social gatherings were not that fun. People spoke english in the beginning but after a while it was all swedish (rightfully so) and I was out.
Same at work, i could participate in all conversations not only those meant for me.
Reading newspaper, watching the news, tv…
I was also made fun of when I misspoke, but that went right back when they did (still recall the fack meetings we had to have at work 😂)

@Jeremiah As a swedish immigrant I was an outsider for 2 years speaking only english. Fortunately my employer got tired of me and from one day to next they spoke “only” swedish.
That was the kick in the butt I needed. I am grateful to this day! Life is totally different when you speak the language.
