@zersiax@cupoftea.social they’re not always sunglasses, they can be normal prescription lenses. I’m definitely not taking my glasses off unless I’m showering or sleeping; taking them off in the bathroom would be a recipe for disaster.

@sil I’ve run a bunch of internal presentations where I point out that light mode often gives less eye strain for specific groups, typically people with astigmatism. Every time there’s at least a couple of people who message me after to say exactly the same as you, and that they feel fooled by the pervasive “dark mode is better for everyone” messaging.

Putting an old Apple Time Capsule up for sale so reset it to factory settings, but out of caution double-checked and found that the reset just reset the settings, not the drive contents, so they’re now being wiped.

Then I remembered that I’d bought the same box second-hand on eBay and when it turned up I found the drive full of recordings of US military planning sessions for Afghanistan operations. Those got deleted sharpish.

Putting together a compilation of short stories by Catherine Louisa Pirkis (of Loveday Brooke, Lady Detective fame) and I really love this archaeology part.

I’ve already transcribed 2–3 shorts from 1870s magazine scans that aren’t on her Wikipedia page. But there’s a novella called “Trooping with Crows” with no public scans available. Luckily you can pay British Library to digitise books from their collection, so #standardEbooks will have the first publication since 1880 (for free of course).

The Aeron of Theseus continues, with new old stock fabric arm pads. Apparently Enron (where this chair came from originally) special-ordered fabric ones for unknown reasons.

In the last 30 years it’s had two new gas struts, a new base mesh, support foam, and now arm pads. I reckon it’s easily got the same life left in it.

I’m on Chrome Canary 146 with experimental web platform features turned on, and I’ve added to my test page that has no font sizes applied to html (just ems, starting from body). I should just expect Mac’s General settings / Accessibility / Display / Text size slider to adjust the font size in the browser, right?
