Dang. Google Translate has gotten really good what the heck.

I checked a text I wrote in rather unique Japanese ──filled with calques, neologisms, historical orthography, archaic kanjis and kanas── and cross-translated it with Google Translate, Kagi Translate, DeepL, PLaMo, and Papago. And it seems like Google Translate is doing shockingly great at JP→EN translation here...

今年8月3日に東京を発ち、🇯🇵NRT(成田)→🇰🇷ICN(ソウル)→🇹🇼TPE(台北)→🇭🇰HKG(香港)→🇹🇷IST(イスタンブール)中継→🇮🇹FCO(ローマ)→🇮🇹FLR(フィレンツェ)→🇫🇷ORY(パリ) から地下鉄で→🇬🇧LGW(ロンドン)、バルセロナはなぜかパリよりもロンドンから往復した方が安上り(片道$50ぐらい)なので、🇬🇧LGW(ロンドン)→🇪🇸BCN(バルセロナ)→🇬🇧LGW(ロンドン)→🇺🇸JFK(ニューヨーク)で、NYから電車で🇺🇸ワシントンD.C.へ；そして 🇺🇸IAD(ワシントンD.C.)→🇺🇸LAS(ラスベガス)→🇺🇸LAX(ロサンゼルス)→🇯🇵NRT(成田) って感じの航空計画を假定すると、航空券のみで $2183 (≈¥34 7795) かかるね。まぁ、航空券が一番高いので、これに宿代や荷物、保険などを考慮すると $4000 (≈¥63 7280) ぐらいが最低ラインかな。

Not gonna lie, the frosty look kinda looks cool (literally) and futuristic. Also makes it look a lot more distinguishable from myriad of other Google products because the old logos all used like 6 colors (which is understandable because ruby Google had 6 letters and colors) and they all look the same especially when I'm not paying attention. Using less colors halves the strain for my head. I bet this makes it easier for those with bad eyesight too. For once, I actually believe this is a good decision especially accessibility-wise.

I've updated CiteThisNote ── A Misskey Plugin that lets you export any note as a BibLaTeX format for reasy citation/references for your essay. This is what the output looks like:

It took me a whole two day of coding. (I am not a programmer so it was very difficult for me). But I am happy with the result! The plugin is fully updated to AiScript 1.2.1 and it now works with Misskey v13+. Installation is as easy as copy and paste.

I remember listening this song with my brother growing up when it first came out around 2011. My condolences goes out to EZFG, the creator of Cyber Thunder Cider.

This is the CUTEST kawaii Ai-chan (藍(あい)"Ai" is a normal female Japanese name meaning "Indigo" both the color and the plant; "Ai"-chan, the mascot of Misskey, has nothing to do with Large Language Models) I have ever seen from a technical literature titled like "Practical Fedify: An Introduction to ActivityPub Microblog Development"! I even see other mascots in the Fediverse too, like Don the Mastodon and that Blue Dinosaur mascot of Fedify (I don't know its name).

I like vegetables but I like animal meat too, especially during a celebration or a festival.

Fun Fact: Japanese people weren't allowed to consume meat eversince Emperor Tenmu (strong advocate of Buddhism) had banned meat consumption in year 1335 After Jinmu (year 675 After Christ; 6183 Anno Mundi).
Meat consumption was looked quite down upon for about a thousand two hundred years in Japan, especially with the influence from Buddhism, until only recently, during the Meiji restoration in Jinmu 2528 (1868 A.C.; 7376 A.M.), did eating meat became less criticized in Japan, after trading with western societies. But because meat consumption was basically banned for over a literal millennia, most traditional Japanese food originating from that time do not contain meat!

Remember this fact when you recommend vegetarian/vegan diet to a Japanese; some of them would rather not experience what their ancestors had to go through for 1000+ years again.

I dislike cars and I do use bicycle and use public transit, but I am way too lazy to advocate for such a radical change. I do think it's super stupid for us to require a driver's licence for operating an electric bicycle though. Why the hell do I need to learn how to drive a car perfectly in a driving course if all I want to do is bike with an acceleration nob? The problem was never about parental control nor the children. This has always been about getting as much information as possible from the end-user. Giving away personal information such as your age, gender, your eye color, and your preferences, JUST TO USE YOUR HARDWARE, should never be made into law, period. Do you seriously think that just because California does not require national ID for age verification today means that they are innocent? Do you seriously not have any clue about the fact that the government in UK is now making the end-user upload their national ID to third-party companies for accessing any site with ＊potential＊ adult content like Twitter and Deviantart? We have already past pornhub long ago; this has never been about stopping stupid teenagers watching pornhub to begin with. No. This has always been about obtaining end-user information since day one. So, I have actually read the text of California law CA AB1043 and, honestly, I don't hate it. It requires operating systems to let you enter a date when you create a user account and requires a way for software to get a coarse-grained approximation of this that says either 'over 18' or one of three age ranges of under-18s. Importantly, it doesn't require:

Remote attestation.
Tamper-proof storage of the age.
Any validation in the age.

In short, it's a tool for parents: it allows you to set the age of a child's account so that apps (including web browsers, which can then expose via JavaScript or whatever) can ask questions about what features they should expose.

In a UNIX-like system, this is easy to do, with a tiny amount of new userspace things:

Define four groups for the four age ranges (ideally, standardise their names!).
Add a /etc/user_birthdays file (or whatever name it is) that stores pairs of username (or uid) and birthdays.
Add a daily cron job that checks the above file and updates group membership.
Modify user-add scripts / GUIs to create an entry in the above file.
Add a tool to create an entry in the above file for existing user accounts.

This doesn't require any kernel changes. Any process can query the set of groups that the user is in already.

If a parent wants to give their child root, they can update the file and bypass the check. And that's fine, that's a parent's choice. And that's what I want.

I like this approach far more than things that require users to provide scans of passports and other toxically personal information to be able to use services. If we had this feature, then the Online Safety Act could simply require that web browsers provide a JavaScript API to query the age bracket and didn't work unless it returned 'over 18'.
