Very happy to announce a new two-day mini series of events around the work of filmmaker Marta Popivoda , in collaboration with film critic Neil Young and the Netherlands Film Academy's Masters of Film.
We begin with a screening of two fantastic films: Yugoslavia, How Ideology Moved our Collective Body (2013, 62 min) + Slet 1998 (2025, 22 min). The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with film critic Neil Young.
We are delighted to host a screening of this film by Sasha Litvintseva and Beny Wagner in conjunction with Filmhuis Den Haag. The screening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A moderated by filmmaker and researcher Bo Wang.
The film interrogates digestion as the fundamental condition for being in the world, a process of physiological, psychological, spiritual, literary and political dimensions. Multiple storylines trace the poetics of incorporation as a matter of metamorphosis and decay, the philosophy of matter and imperial conquest, industrialisation and annihilation, poetry and parenting, love and citation.
The film was awarded the Jury Special Mention New: Vision Competition, CPH:DOX.

TWIG is a zine designed by Ekaterina Volkova that captures insights from the Lorentz workshop organized by Lisette van Beek (Lund University), Johannes Stripple (Lund University), Mark Westmoreland (Leiden University, ReCNTR), Josephine Chambers (Utrecht University) and Ekaterina Volkova (independent).

Through a concrete project, participants will work on the development, experimentation, production, and distribution of their multimodal research. The workshop will also bring ReCNTR researchers and mentors to discuss the specific stages of the life of the projects.

Bring an artefact from your research (image, idea, text etc) and re-mix it in collaboration with fellow participants.

Join us for this Lorentz Public lecture: Climate Confessional: how can we talk differently about the climate crisis?
The public lecture is part of a week-long Lorentz workshops Art-Science for Radical Transformation, which brings together diverse artists, humanities scholars, and social scientists to reimagine the joint role of art and science to collectively respond to the climate crisis.

The symposium features talks and discussions that explore the transformations induced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the interplay of power, knowledge and images. Includes talks by a number of artists participating in the Framer Framed exhibition 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺? 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘴.
𝘚𝘺𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯/𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 focuses on the unprecedented possibilities of AI in generating ‘synthetic vision’ (the ability to “see” algorithmically) and ‘synthetic image generation’ (the ability to create new images through prompts). Join us for the final event of the Young Academy Leiden (YAL) and Jong Universiteit Leiden (JUL)’s Spring of Art and Science!
In collaboration with LIACS Mediatechnology and ReCNTR, this exhibition aims to highlight works that employ multimodal approaches which challenge conventional notions of knowledge production and artist expression.
The exhibition provides an opportunity to explore examples of multimodality in practice and a chance to interact with artists and researchers at Leiden university working at this intersection.
