Receiving a lot of general info@ and other mail for both Endless and the GNOME Foundation, I am continually amazed by how many "Investment opportunity in Endless" and "Offer to acquire the GNOME Foundation" kind of mails I get. What is even happening here? If your due diligence process involves cold e-mailing people and not even checking if you're trying to buy a nonprofit, you're not an even slightly credible investor. Who are these mails for?!

@contrarian @gnome People take part for personal development/experience, because their employer wishes to support GNOME (subject to bylaws restrictions on undue corporate influence), because they are able to spare time to support GNOME's mission, or a combination. (It's all three for me.) Soliciting applications doesn't equate to there being nobody within the community capable/willing to do the work, we just need to look for them - hence the need to make some kind of communication... :)

We have paid administrative staff, bookkeepers and accountants - the Treasurer here is primarily supporting the board in oversight of finance/processes, rather than doing significant hands on accounting work.

@gnome@floss.social is looking for volunteers interested in serving as the Foundation's Treasurer.

(Officers and Directors are different roles - we often appoint Officers from the board but they can also be external. If you're considering standing for the board, it's a great way to gain relevant experience.)
