@foone@digipres.club agreed, it also requires translating a linear flow with verbs and options into an event based system with a visual grammar. And most of us aren't trained in the visual languages that make GUIs effective for users.

@eliocamp@mastodon.social this is exactly what I mean: there's a parameter to the function that changes its behaviour, meaning that I need to remember which functions have these special parameters. In Python I need to learn that there's a language construction (a loop or a list comprehension) that can take a list (or anything iterable) and filter it into another list. It is more verbose but more general.

@eliocamp@mastodon.social sorry, can you explain why the special purpose R function is a good idea? Outside of the tidyverse pipe logic, my R code ends up being full special functions, many of which don't seem to follow consistent naming conventions.

At its worst, open science in an inequitable world facilitates knowledge extraction...

@a_cubed @FluentInFinance the trick, I suppose, is that the bacterial colony is still in the oxygen poor tumour. So this stops the colony from ever growing too big.

@ploum@mamot.fr so that's this course, right? https://forge.uclouvain.be/ldricot/lingi2401 I have to teach (and examine) this year for the first time in a couple of years and mine is an introduction to (Python) programming course. I'm honestly terrified of teaching a technical subject in the chatbot era. While yours is a different kind of course (and my Masters in Public Health course had similar rules on chatbot use) your blog post gave me a little bit of hope.
