Good morning. š“š„±ā
23 February 2026
The temperature this morning is reminding us that winter isnāt quite done with us yet. The sun is out, the trees are starting to sprout leaves, and the birds are singing, but Charlie and I arenāt exactly outside dancing and belting out The Sound of Music. Charlie would be fine with that, but for now Iād rather stay inside where itās warm. Maybe weāll head out later, once things warm up a bit.
I suppose I could just dress warmly and go for a walk, but the weather is right at that tricky point where itās hard to guess the right number of layers. Too many, and Iām stuck walking a mile feeling overheated; too few, and Iām chilled the whole way. The sweet spot is when I start out cold and warm into it as I goābut then the outside temperature rises during the walk, throwing the whole calculation off. There must be a formula for getting it just right. Thatās my problem alone, though. Charlie just steps outside exactly as he is, no matter the weather, like it doesnāt bother him at all.
I know he notices temperature, though. In the evenings he always finds the perfect spot in the houseāsometimes tucked behind my wifeās chair, sometimes in the foyer, sometimes on the couch in the family room. I rarely ever find him in his actual bed.
He moves around during the night, I think, but when I open the bedroom door in the morning, heās right there waiting for me.
