If you’re a laborer under capitalism, your income is directly proportional to the scarcity of workers with your particular skill level. This is why a surgeon makes more money than a street sweeper even if the city needs both to survive: it’s simply easier to train more people to sweep than to perform surgeries. When billionaires dream of a world of abundance, they do not mean food on your table, they mean an abundance of workforce. It means you are easier to replace (by a robot) and worth less.
