When I detect a kind of hyperfocus and if it interfer with my work, I don't fight, I adapt my planning. Pomodoro method works fine. I use the mini pause to my hyperfocus. Sometimes, when it's to important, I stop my work, and spend more time on it, with timer. But, I've never been at the point you describe about caring of myself.
