@daisy as someone who’s day job is doing *EXACTLY* this in corporate environments it’s incredibly complicated and Microsoft make it frustratingly difficult due to how they tie your login to every service to your email address.
It’s something I think about every day not just for trans folks but for any folks wanting to leave their old names behind.
The least 💩 solution is everyone uses their employee number for login. But that has lots of other implications. Tech sucks that way.

The natural consequence of this is I can see people seeing value of being on a particular server where the admins take the infrastructure and moderation seriously. So will consequently be ok with paying for the server they use as well managed servers will thrive.

@Limerick1914@mastodon.ie the only thing missing is the moderation that distributed servers brings. As a user you can block toxic servers. And as an admin you need to make sure you stomp on toxic users so you don’t get kicked out of the federation. So then it will happen that toxic people congregate on chan esq toxic servers that are isolated from the rest of the network.
That can only be a good thing for society.
