@yordansic@mastodon.online Serious question, is English not your first language? "You have to Boost IF you want anyone else to see it." That's not saying people are obligated to boost anything. That's stating a simple fact that if you want other people to see the post, it requires boosting it, a favorite will not do that.

@design_law@mastodon.social likes are good but don't increase the visibility of the post. To me a like here is a personal acknowledgement of thx. You have to Boost if you want anyone else to see it. The problem is that #mastodon fundamentally changed what the *vast* majority of ppl think it means to 'Like' something. Don't call it the same thing as something but then make it different.

Which ignores the centuries of systemic damage done. You didn't do the damage but most white people have benefited from it, and damn near all POC/minorities have been punished by it. And the systemic racism in the system now. I don't see libertarian plans to address that. And *that* is directly in favor of the white male. To not pay for the damage his group has caused.

There's behavioral issues you aren't going to solve and some technical things that would be useful as well. The issue here was the former, and protocols don't solve that. They can attempt to mitigate it, but it's a hammer driving a screw.

I suspect there will be consolidation into larger instance providers, like there was with email over time. I really do feel like this is the same thing with very early email providers...but with the added complexity of shared/hosted info and the far more litigious environment of the modern era. One additional factor is there isn't a central place to file those lawsuits either. It's 1000s of small disperse ones

It's like email was in the beginning, lots of small independent servers and a very less threatening legal landscape. but it's also not like email in that, as you note, there is 'hosted' information subject to legal takedown notices, etc. Non-trivial, but also, not at all insurmountable.

But in this case it's moving the source from one server to another along with replies and all the other stuff too. Not sure if your old instance keeps your posts as readonly or not. Smaller instances might be possible but for larger ones probably too much to handle. Basically if you need it saved, be proactive!

Saving your content is always something that you likely need to be proactive about if you need to ensure it's preserved. But you can change instances pretty easily and it mostly automatically updates your followers to your new address. If you stick with medium or larger instances you'll likely not run into the tyrant HOA leader issue. /1

A user could have a business account and a personal account on most any instance they want, like email. Or they could run their own instance too but as you note that's a bit more work.

There are issues with a federated system that will be hiccups, compared with a seamless single silo, no argument there. But it really is a pretty well thought out system I think. Built in flexibility on many fronts. And as for accounts, people had multiple Twitter accounts, no different here

No income stream and moderating 100,000s of users? no way in heck that's sustainable. Switching to a smaller, better managed instance really is the reasonable solution.
