The very notion of them claiming this is done with the user’s consent is beyond the pale. And just goes to demonstrate tech’s relationship with the concept of consent in the first place.

@thomasfuchs and all the proprietary information that went into making it, i.e. source code, CAD files, testing info, etc. (including server-side components and factory tooling) should need to be placed into escrow as part of any legal protections such as copyright. If the company fails to open the product, or goes out of business, it’s all released into public domain.

@stephaniewalter growing up I was told women don’t make good engineers because they lack spatial reasoning skills. Anyone who believes this has never tried to sew. Mapping complex 3D shapes onto 2D surfaces, repeatedly inverting topologies, etc, all while aligning weave and patterns. Basic sewing skills that would melt many “engineer’s” brains. IMO, if it’s “woman’s” work, it’s because men can’t handle it. If it’s “man’s” work, it’s because men felt threatened and excluded women.

I’ve been wanting someone to do this for years.

I know of a few ad-hoc efforts to catalog specific crimes, but we really need a single repository where it can all be gathered. (The storage itself needs to be decentralized and mostly outside the US.)

If nothing else, maybe seeing the obscene volume of crimes committed will shame someone into doing something about it.

My only disagreement with Cory’s plan is listing the witnesses, they have a tendency to disappear or get otherwise silenced.

@s s-video was typically a 4 pin mini-din. (The 9 pin variant was for bidirectional video, none carried audio so wouldn’t be useful in that scenario). That looks more like an AppleTalk port. I just never saw an iPod to AppleTalk dongle…
