I don't know whether it is our tendency towards black or white thinking, or ... Liberty or death, aye We're all free to choose death, but how many of us choose without thinking and then die astonished? My father died when he grew too old to care for himself. He fell ill, and he got the surgery he needed. But he argued down the staff at the hospital, and he left days before they felt he was ready Home alone, he then turned off the pain with pills leftover from an expired prediction whose expiry he declined to respect Across the next couple of days that got him sick enough that they couldn't bring him back when he did call for help. He just died, though by then he was unwilling And we know, at his death, he left a loaded pistol behind inside the drawer of his bedside table All of us together didn't persuade him to live differently. Going completely off the grid is eventually lethal Can we still change the thinking of someone similar, but still alive now? Really? How.

Claude·Ai will write bytes to your macOS Terminal if you tell it to try.

Getting those direct writes to do more good than harm, well, that might often be hard to achieve till after you memorise as much of the Terminal Drive stack as I have. But I feel at least teaching it to widen the Window as needed is a win for pretty much any one of us?

Eggs | $5.63/dozen | €11.00/dozen
Gas | $6.14/gal | €1.39/L
Butter | $6.50/lb | €14.79/kg
Milk | $5.25/gal | €1.19/L

<=

Is that what they tell you?

This is what I got by asking my Perplexity·Ai Bot to draw it up for us

I dunno if the unit conversions are accurate

I don’t watch these prices closely when my party is in power

<=

Six prompts:

Price of eggs, gas, butter, & milk near me now

All good give me a small plain text table

Yo finish the table do your best

Hey milk per gallon

Ok we’ve got our start Eggs | $5.63/dozen Gas | $6.14/gal Butter | $6.50/lb Milk | $5.25/gal Now add a column of euros per liter or per kilo

No, still eggs per dozen

Have you next thought about getting more people to adopt Python's

pdb.pm()

?

2018 Python 3.7 gave us breakpoint, and I've got people to call it, and more lately you don't even have to add the Pass statement afterwards to make it work well

The Post-Mortem Debugger at pdb.pm() I have trouble getting people to appreciate

I dunno how to deploy it well myself in less than like 50 Lines of patch, as attached

Three clauses written to establish slavery in the 1789 US Constitution. Every clause finely crafted to never mention slavery by name. Speaking instead of importing not-free persons into service and labor. “”” Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States… according to their respective Numbers… which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons… three fifths of all other Persons. No Person held to Service or Labour in one State… escaping into another, shall… be discharged from such Service or Labour, but shall be delivered up on Claim of the Party to whom such Service or Labour may be due. So Claude has got you to adopt Git Worktrees.

Has it told you the part about the 1 'rm' you sent to 1 dir coming across as broadcast to all the dirs?

They're coming for your Untracked Files, I tell you.

One detail that may help whoever picks this up. A single session out of the 19 recorded its /model invocation as a "user" record rather than a "system" record, and that one shows in the picker as "/model" rather than as a hash. So the picker's fall-through to first-user-message-text works fine, and the two record types are simply not being written consistently for the same event.

Either fix would do:

  • do not persist a session that never received a prompt, or
  • hide zero-turn untitled sessions from the resume picker.

====

This /bug for Claude·Ai written for it by itself, with barely a glance by me before me sending it in to their void.

How widely has the news spread that Douglas Adams could have been mentioning 42 in the way of 42/7 is math.tau ? <= Like we can work examples near math.tau. I know 42/7 is within 4.6% of math.tau, and I know 6.28 is within 5.1% of math.tau, when I see the difference calculated >>> ((math.tau - 42/7) / math.tau) * 100 4.507034144862795 >>> >>> ((math.tau - 6.28) / math.tau) * 100 0.05069573828972128 >>> For work that needs only 10% accuracy, I will settle for two digits, like as I speak here of 5.1%. But I wouldn't feel much dissed, I wouldn't feel you're egregiously wasting my time, if you tell me these are within 4.51% and within 5.07%. And I still wouldn't feel much dissed, if you tell me these are about 4.50% and 5.06% of accurate.

I do feel my thinking about computer puzzles gets stuck when I have no one to talk to, but the $$ AI Chatbots simulate conversation enough to unstick me. Today I got them to carry me as far forward as noticing I can easily tell a shell to poll for an answer, and tell me every time the answer changes. The conventional way to do this in Linux erases all but the last answer, which has frustrated me at least since late Nov/2015 when first I came back into working with Linux & macOS. It is easy to rebuild enough of the conventional logic to fix just this one broken bit, but all the same somehow I had never got that far forward before today. I’d say what I was stuck on was a lack of conversation.

This /bug for Claude·Ai written for it by itself, with barely a glance by me before me sending it in to their void. ==== Slack connector (claude_ai_Slack MCP): I can't copy a Slack message without silently changing it. slack_read_channel returns a message in Slack's own mrkdwn. slack_send_message accepts standard markdown and converts it. The two dialects disagree, so a verbatim copy comes back different. Repro, copying one message to the bottom of the same channel: sent: > *a ) text* got: > _a ) text_ In Slack mrkdwn, *asterisks* mean bold. In standard markdown they mean italic. The connector reads the first dialect and writes the second, so bold silently became italic. Nothing warned me, and the tool description only says "standard markdown", which reads as a formatting preference rather than as a warning that read output is not valid send input. Two more losses in that same copy: - a line with no leading ">" was pulled into the preceding blockquote - a trailing space was stripped Separately, every message I send gets "Sent using @Claude" appended, which I can't suppress. My user was copying a chain of 8 messages they are presenting as their own analysis, so that trailer would have landed 8 times on it. =>

There is recursive self improvement of the model weights, but are there other things we store that we already know how to improve now?

=>

I don't run just the models from Claude's makers. I run memories and skills and hooks and so on.

As I work, I pump a feedback loop that rewrites those. I pump it regularly, at several frequencies.

  • I'm often watching Git Diffs, and telling Claude how wrong it's gone.

  • In reply to Claude's mention of memory, I am likely to reply with a call for self improvement: Yes please do improve your Memory's, Skill's, Hook's, etc etc as you recommend.

  • At the end of most any chat I'm likely to end with a broader stronger call for self improvement: Are we good to wrap or should we keep talking? Did I drop an important point? Can you find anything more in this chat that you should fold into an existing Memory? Or even a new Memory you should create?

  • At the end of most weeks I'm likely to end with an even broader and stronger call for self improvement: How full are we?

<=

How about you?

How do you get your Claude Memory's to recursively self improve themselves?
