I think my existing iTunes purchase of Speed Racer got quietly upgraded to the 4K, with extras, version that Warner Bros just released. Which is very nice.

It’s been a while since I’ve been told off for taking photos but I suppose PG&E is really twitchy about substations these days.

WhatCable tells you what cables connected to your Mac can actually do. I wrote about it, my coding-agent assisted contributions, and discovering there's Swift tooling outside XCode. https://notes.husk.org/post/817063155663568896/whatcable

I watched a BBC Archive video on mobile internet from 2000 - https://youtu.be/NedkJwn28jw - featuring at one point the "Matrix phone", the Nokia 8110, which was described as "a mobile phone on steroids". I thought it had to be smaller than a modern iPhone; it's a little shorter and a lot less wide, but it turns out it was 25mm deep, so the iPhone is actually more like 60% of its volume, despite the face size. Huh.

Hypothesis: people used to public transport make better air passengers. They’re used to ceding control and trusting the process. In contrast, people who mostly (or only) drive find the same process difficult, albeit probably subconsciously.

Replying to @gruber@mastodon.social
@gruber@mastodon.social the broader argument is sound, yes. I just like sticking up for the BBC (and C4 and to some extent ITV), all making quality TV decades ago.

@gruber@mastodon.social annoying global perspective note: TV didn’t achieve quality for decades *in the US*. In the UK there are examples right back to the fifties. I would guess there were other countries and languages, usually with state owned networks, that also pulled that off.

A few months ago I knocked up a trivial extension to `gh`, the GitHub command line utility: https://github.com/blech/gh-show-url
`gh show-url` shows the URL to visit the current PR. That's it. It might be useful if you like context-clicking URLs in Terminal, and/or have too many PRs on the go.

@philgyford@mastodon.social I’m pretty sure the Hardwired edition of The Medium… somehow managed to offset the pages, so all the double page spreads were broken. I meant to check my copy, but between reading on the train and getting home I forgot.

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io it’s one proposal (there’s also mention of a hotel tax: a much better idea). There’s plenty of pushback from the British too https://mastodon.social/@adrianhon/116294730404430207

@yaxu "What it reminded me more of, though, was the noise emitted by electric cars; which, depending on the make and model, consist of everything from orchestral samples to recordings of the didgeridoo." Please someone write a deep dive into how these got composed because I want to read it (and learn to recognise cars purely by sound).
