@gettie@fedi.catto.garden I'm talking about the "Upload from URL" option - if a user wants to upload a media file they found on a non-https source, they can download it and upload it from their disk. Wouldn't that be good enough?

@TheLastOfHisName@sharkey.world no, Catodon is not out yet, and it's based on Sharkey, so I wanted to get some real-world-use answers from current upstream users (so both Misskey and Sharkey). Thanks for answering!

Sharkey/Misskey users: Would it make a real difference to you if you could only upload media files instead of any file to your Drive? I'm thinking of restricting it to media files (and only from https) for Catodon, for security reasons. I doubt any of the users in our 3+ years old Firefish server uploaded any other type of file.

@dakkar@s.thenautilus.net unless you're thinking of a very specific business plan, software companies for example (who have started using LLMs at large because it can really speed up many things) don't seem to run a big risk of lock-in. You can replace gpt with claude and claude with gemini without changing your workflow, and if those three lobby up to raise prices, there are quite a few upcoming LLMs that would gladly take their place at a lower cost.
