It seems that governments are dead set on making computers, and computer adjacent tools, useless to anyone other than governments and large corporations. That sucks, and we should all resist to whatever degree we can.

But you know what else? We can do things without computers. We can meet with other people in person. We can play acoustic musical instruments. We can write on paper, paint on canvases, shop at local stores, play board and card games, attend live plays and concerts, go for hikes....

At least half of the people alive today have experienced life before the Internet, and even more can remember life before "smart phones". If you need ideas on how to diversify your life away from the digital, just ask someone older.

This really speaks to me. The ukulele is one of the few things keeping me (moderately) sane at the moment.

This passage from Eleanor Arnason’s Ring of Swords (1993) seems remarkably apt in this moment:

I am wondering if you can recommend a PeerTube instance with good reach that I can join? My goal is simply to have an account that I can log into on the raspberry pi connected to my TV to view, subscribe to, and maybe occasionally leave comments on PeerTube videos. I have no need or desire to upload videos.

A couple of weeks ago I visited your website, and subscribed to the PeerTube server that you were suggesting that day. It works just fine for the videos hosted on that instance, but of all the channels that I have searched for there (several of which were your recommendations), only one was found. I can find all of them on your instance, but since you don’t allow signups, I cannot subscribe to anything there.

I would be very grateful if you could recommend an instance that has the kind of reach that yours has, and allows signups.

I just clicked on the video at the top of crowdsupply.com/mnt/mnt-reform… and it demanded that I log in to “prove that I am not a bot”. I do not, and will not, have a login for YT, but I would love to be able to see your videos!

@mntmn @sntx In this context you're correct, since it is a contraction of "let us" it needs an apostrophe. There are contexts in which no apostrophe is correct, though, such as "Mom lets us choose our own breakfast."

@meljoann@topspicy.social Caught a few minutes of this this morning, and the third thing I saw was your "O Supervisor". It was amazing! This really does have the feel of very early MTV (when most of the videos available for them to play were experimental things by the likes of Devo and Todd Rundgren), but better. And the chorus of "O Supervisor" has been stuck in my head for the past hour and a half. :smile:
