Anybody else keeping up with the RevTT / RevoPeers drama?

Just now dropped my account, or at least the best I can do so, since there isn’t a cancel button. For many years, I never had to pay anything because I paid for it with my VPN/seedbox setup. Seeded that shit for 20 years. Some people donate, some people ratio. I’m fine with that. I had bookmarks for certain series that would auto-download. Didn’t download as much as I used to, but I would still log in every month or so and grabbed a few things. The whole VPN/Deluge setup on a Raspberry Pi had its kinks, but I coded around it, fixed it, patched it, and restarted it when I needed to. Recently redid the OS for an major Debian upgrade. About a year ago, all of the seeds broke and the domain changed to revott.me. They had a domain change before (was a .com), so I figured something happened and they had to change it again. Searched around and it looked legit, so I logged on. Wasn’t just a domain change, but a complete management change. Lost all of their peers, and everybody had to manually re-point their seeds to the new domains. Pain in the ass. They had some yearly subscription model now, because there was a lot of frank talk about maintenance costs and ex-mgmt leaving them to hold the bag. Didn’t give a shit about the drama. It wasn’t terribly expensive for a yearly membership, so I paid for it. Didn’t really think about it again until today when I wanted to grab something. New domain: revopeers.me now. Different layout, so I’m suspicious again. Login again to be greeted with just a membership page again. No access to torrents, despite the fact that my 300+ seeds are happily giving up the data. Begging for money again with membership tiers and shady bullshit: RevoPeers is a new platform — legacy membership time from GimmePeers or RevoTT does not carry over automatically. So, I guess all of those people that bought the “Lifetime Founder Status” are scammed again, and have to spend more money for another Lifetime account, because it’s technically a different web site? Situation got so bad that a /r/RevoTT site popped up from ex-members. Of course, that would involve me actually signing up for another shithole web site that I left years ago.

There is no privacy with a free AI agent. Depends on where the AI is hosted. If you’re running a local LLM, all of that data is stored in-house on your PC.

Jamrock Hobo, one of the main DE channels, did a pretty fair and unbiased review about the game. The game had its flaws, but it was still a good game. Having them immediately fire the staff afterwards just seems like it’s pulling the same shit over again, further cancelling any good PR they may have made with the game’s release. I don’t see how they get out of this. ZA/UM is done, and will get replaced by one of the other 3-4 studios that were borne from its ashes. At least the ideas around it are starting to get traction in other games.

Be wary of spammy reposting bots

I’ve noticed quite a few top posters that are using LLMs or other software to repost news links and images, probably from Reddit, onto a bunch of specific forums. They don’t identify as bot accounts, but they are fairly easy to spot because they are posting a steady stream of posts, around 2-3 posts an hour, 24/7. No sleep periods, just constant posts, at an unnatural rate. Here’s a few examples I’ve found: @Grumpus_Maximus@thelemmy.club - Joined 2 months ago, 1.69K posts, sole moderator of Build A PC Sales@lemmy.world, steady stream of posts without sleeping, only posts on 4 different forums @sanitation@lemmy.today - Joined 2 months ago, 1.3K posts, steady stream of posts without sleeping, only posts on 5-6 different forums @beep@piefed.world - Joined 3 months ago, 2K posts, moderator of 15 different forums only on piefed.world, also a hidden moderator of Beep—Meta@piefed.world (yes, with an emdash) with zero posts and zero users, seems to try to evade detection by having some posting breaks in-between Keep an eye on these kind of posters, and report them when you see them.

Rule #4: Don’t submit low-quality posts. Also, this user is a bot. Look at the post history. No normal user posts 40 entries in a 24 hour period. And no, I don’t mean they post a bunch of posts in one period, and bunch the rest in another period. I mean they are consistently posting 2-3 entries an hour without sleep, without a break.

We’ve tried to educate, but the general public is just so fucking stupid and won’t learn any lessons at all. How many pre-orders does it take before they realize it’s a scam? Fuck, there are still idiots that buy the latest FIFA game at full price every single year. It’s not even victim blaming when they repeatedly don’t learn they are being shafted over and over again.

I taste no appreciable difference between the brands, Either you don’t have any taste buds, or you don’t order pizza that often. A statement like this is like saying “I taste no appreciable difference between Coke and Pepsi”. Papa Johns’ has an almost-sugary pizza sauce that I don’t like that much. I also prefer pan pizza, but their default is that floppy NY pizza style. I consider them one of my least favorite option. Fucking Yum can’t manage any of their brands. Domino’s used to suck about 15-20 years ago, but they have improved in every way now. Typically my go-to delivery, for a major chain brand. Pizza Hut is still pretty good for pan pizza, but some think is greaser than others. They tend to use a lot of cheese, which is fine by me. Little Caesars, absolute fucking garbage. I’d rather heat up a cheap pizza at home. Cicis, barely above Little Caesars, about the same quality as Chuck E. Cheese or Mr. Gattis Jet’s Pizza, really really good pan pizza, a bit more expensive, but better than old standards like Domino’s or Pizza Hut. Mellow Mushroom, Old Chicago, Blaze Pizza, all S-tier pizza restaurants, though they don’t deliver. Making your own pizza with Blaze just makes it the top pick out of all of these.

Even if we called them LLMs, which we should, people will keep having these negative connotations to the technology because of overmarketing. Stop blaming the technology, and blame the corpos pushing it to the moon. This is “BitTorrent is only used for piracy” bullshit all over again.

It’s wrong to wish people dead I had this attitude 20 years ago. I no longer do. I’ve come to realize that there are certain rich fucks who are actively harming humanity directly (Hitler, Kissinger, Reagan, world leaders who send the poor to useless wars), and if they died and their death prevented more suffering, that’s a good thing for humanity. Even the rich fucks that just hoard money are actively robbing from the poor to do so, and some of those people die as a result. How many people does a person have to kill before they are too far gone to save, and are just evil? How many levels of indirection does it take before they wouldn’t be considered evil? What happens if a person indirectly kills millions of people? Is that still far enough to call them evil? These are the questions you should ask yourself when you try to plot out your own moral compass.

Imagine two glasses, both 8 oz. One is titled usability and the other titled security. And one is the dumpster fire that is Windows 11. I feel like these security arguments are overblown. Linux is still pretty damn secure, and the Linux community is still tough on fixing security bugs. Would you rather be using a UNIX-based secure OS, or Windows update-and-crash 11?

My point is that I took a famously overrated game that showed a clear disconnect between paid-off journalist shills and users who actually played the game. One of the sites exposed the disconnect. The other gave it a “80% player rating”.

Tried it out with Mixtape: This and this both look the same, except Metacritic exposes the brazen astroturf campaigning going on with this mediocre game. I would also expect OpenCritic to have critics that weren’t directly paid by Annapurna Interactive on the list to drag the score down. Instead, the critic score is even higher.

In this case Artix already is a systemd-free distro, but this is part of why i think it’s a bad idea that systemd is wanting to implement the age verification crap, cause i think the distro should be allowed to decide if they want to comply or not. Feels like distros that use systemd will be forced to comply unless they change init, which is probably a pain in of itself.

Where do I install an Ageless-style patch to force flagrant non-compliance?

At my work, anybody can have Windows, Mac, or Linux. Each have an approved set of software that they can use. If it’s not on the approved list, and it’s something freely available and gets regular security updates, it’s usually not a problem to get it on the list. I don’t have to explain to my co-workers what software I use. Most of the time, it’s cloud-based or web-based and universal, anyway.
