Last week I had the pleasure of hypnotizing a gentleman who had never been hypnotized before (except by listening to recordings). We had a good first session -- he was very responsive. The next day we met again.
Rather than going through a more formal induction, I just said to him "What do you think will happen when I tell you to go to sleep now?" He opened his mouth to answer, but instead his eyes fluttered shut and his head dropped down to his chest. After some deepening...

Hot hypnosis take: I think that drunkenness is a better metaphor than 'sleep' for hypnosis. A lot of people just starting out with hypnosis will think they are "not really hypnotized" because they are not unconscious -- they are aware of everything around them. But in hypnosis you are aware, but uninhibited, and more likely to go along with funny ideas. And when you wake up your memory might be fuzzy or gone. Or not.

A number of my regular hypnosis subjects are straight men who have a deep desire to be dominated by a gay man. I find this particular fetish fascinating. These guys aren't secretly gay, and generally don't want any explicitly sexual contact -- they have wives or girlfriends that they have conventional relationships with.
The first time I encountered one of these men, I assumed he had a regular hypnosis fetish and was "settling for" a male hypnotist when a female would be preferred.

I just watched Darren Brown’s special “Showman” (whole thing available on YouTube in my area). I really have to admire his work — half the show comprised a couple of very basic hypnosis routines, but through storytelling, staging, dramatic lighting, and sound design he made them into a big compelling set piece. He is a fine but not exceptional hypnotist, but as a showman he ranks among the very best.
