Someone wrote to me — don’t use AI — and it's the first time I'm mad at someone in a Reddit fandom for not knowing that you can easily type an em-dash using a keyboard shortcut and not a sign of AI.

@eWalthert@typo.social @tphinney@typo.social @w__h_@typo.social It reminds me of the 100 fonts on a CD that used to be included with magazines when I studied in 2007, and the rasterisers* that created fonts from handwriting.

Still thinking about it. Nothing extraordinary, just a cordial gesture. These terms carry the same significance as “married”, “single”, “widower”, “divorced”, and so on. And probably they are from the Facebook list. I don’t know who at Facebook thought about it; and perhaps there were good intentions behind it. However, it’s a source of comments in which every stupid right-winger pretends to be clever and accuses trans people of believing in 56 genders.

Ok. I’m not sure if this is some inside joke I’m missing, but when you click on “California Type Foundry” in the FontLab 8 tutorial, it links to a vegan blog that ran from April to July 2018.

Correcting JT Rhette before publishing, checking some backups, and falling down a rabbit hole like this g. Thoughts — actually… The shape looks good… Maybe it’s worth going back and tweaking it a bit?… No… No… You don’t have time for that!… But maybe…

This was definitely the cause. Visible improvement and change — more energy, more concentration, 6 kilos down (20 to go).

@Sahar@typo.social Well. I still have scars on my hands because, as a child, teen, I overestimated what a hammer, screwdriver, and so on could do, and as an adult, I broke screws because I used too much force. Robofont is very rudimentary. You know exactly what everything is for. There’s not much confusion about the functions. No info noise. I once ran a workshop with students and wondered how to show them the differences; I’m still thinking about it. So, Robofont is like a hammer and a screwdriver, Glyphs is like an electric screwdriver, and FontLab is FontLab.

I’m not sure if this is a good comparison, but Robofont is like a hammer and a screwdriver. The only limit is your own strength (Python knowledge)

Idk…

But OK. It caught my attention. I clicked on it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have checked whether there was any deeper meaning to it.

There was a moment of satisfaction as I started to get the hang of using Robofont, only to realise just how slow my progress is.

It’s from the director of the series ‘Fargo’ and ‘Alien: Earth’ (it’s good, but not really my cup of tea – though my fiancée absolutely loves it) https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/2026/05/billionaire-consequence-free-reality/686588/

@FandaSin @MatthijsSluiter @DunwichType @letterror I mean, I really don't want to use that worn-out phrase, and ‘AI’ can be useful, but when I read and hear about how ‘Tech Bros’ are wreaking havoc on the world with their lack of accountability and their plans, nothing else comes to mind. And you can talk all you like about how much money it burns, but everyone uses it (I know it’s based on the Amazon and Adobe business models), but you need to start using it too if you want to stay competitive. So, welcome to the cyberpunk future (not Elon’s cybertruck retro kid nostalgia future).

I get the feeling I’m finally going to need glasses too. Strange feeling, knowing that until now others had to wear them.

Thanks a lot for climate change. Another month with allergies. Another month wearing a mask or stuck in the house. And then more months at home, because the heat will be brutal.

Three years of endless attempts to improve concentration, boost energy, along with attempts to lose 10 kilos from Typemedia – all solved by discovering that your thyroid isn’t working and you need replacement hormones.

It’s just terrifying how many moving parts are in your body.

@kentlew@typo.social @TiroTypeworks@typo.social I’ve been clicking on it for six months. And I’ve checked my Mac settings too (others app work). Over and over again. FontLab 6, 7 and 8 had so many glitches and bad UI design that my first thought is that this must be some kind of improvement that I just can’t find in the UI mess.

Does anyone know what to click so that the Fontlab menu bar in Mac doesn't constantly hide? It’s annoying, even more so if you have a second screen positioned above your main working screen. This is a problem limited to Fontlab. Neither Glyphs, Robofont nor any other app has this problem.
