An electrical engineer working in Sydney as an audio DSP engineer while pretending to be a computer scientist.

I'm interested in: software synthesisers, pipe organ simulation, multi rate signal processing and filter banks, IIR filter design and efficient numerically robust implementations, audio virtualisation, dynamic filtering, high performance software, programming language design.

Forgive me. I am writing code to parse CMake generator expressions using CMake.

I decided that my 40th bday present to myself is going to be a new digital piano to replace the 20 year old thing I keep fixing and holy moly… my head is spinning from the sheer number of options.

Do you work in proprietary software and occasionally (or always) deliver source code to customers or partners? Do you post-process source code files from your source control as part of your release process (for anything: stripping comments, removing special development test code, inserting stuff)? This is not about stripping out or adding files, this is modification of sources. Please respond if you have strong opinions. @rygorous@mastodon.gamedev.place I would really like your take on this if you have a moment.

Has anyone tried to make a game that gets played on a grid made of those aperiodic tiles yet? How would you even index cells?

@demofox@mastodon.gamedev.place I still occasionally think about that blue noise thread we had yonks ago. I had an idea recently for a 2D generator based on the same technique I used last time.

The resulting distribution is still perfectly uniform. The frequency response is not the same horizontally and vertically but both dimensions experience a very slight high-pass characteristic. Probably not useful, but thought you might enjoy.

@dotstdy the most frustrating thing about this is the cost blowouts of not choosing the total fibre rollout. It’s another example of the coalition’s “let’s just make absolutely everything worse” policies that the boomers seem to drool over.

@halcy@icosahedron.website it really was a good one and https://tom7.org/account-balance definitely does not exist and is just an example.

@rnd @jim_easterbrook @simontatham the peaky digit histogram sounds useful. The flat histogram seems like where it falls over. I wonder if you could combine this with something like the DCT of the digits and look for peakiness in the spectrum? Maybe that would work for numbers where the digits follow a pattern.
