What do I think was missing from the book Architecture Modernization? Great question from @eduardodasilva@mastodon.social yesterday as part of an interview that will be published soon.

While designing a great architecture, prioritizing areas with the most business impact, and having an effective migration plan are essential to get right, so are all of the small things that happen on a day to day basis.

You can't do all of the work for all of the teams yourself, so how do you ensure each team is realising its full modernization potential?

Sometimes you need to help leadership establish a vision and strategy that inspires teams.

Sometimes you need to help teams better understand the bigger picture, vision, and priorities.

When was the last time you appointed someone on your team to play the role of devil's advocate?

If you're answer is "never" or "a long time ago" then you need to spend more time listening to Laïla Bougriâ (@noctovis@hachyderm.io)

She was talking about decision making this morning at NDC Sydney, a topic which I don't think gets enough air time.

Laïla gave actionable advice that most teams would benefit from, especially those constantly rushing to deliver and not reflecting on their process.
