Thank you very much for your financial support in our 2025 end-of-year funding round. We reached our goal of EUR 1,000 and even raised almost EUR 300 on top of that. As promised, this additional amount will be donated to a Mastodon/Fediverse related project or person.
Since we are a community project, we would like to ask you, the nettimers, for your suggestions on where this donation should go. Which project, organization or individual connected to Mastodon or the wider Fediverse do you think we should support?

We plan to upgrade once the new version of Mastodon has been released and glitch-soc has been updated.
Server upgrades

In terms of server resources, glitch-soc requires about the same environment as Hometown. We have been running on a server with 16GB of RAM and about 150GB of hard drive space. This setup isn't really sufficient for the number of users we have, so we have run into issues due to lack of RAM or space. For that reason, we have already provisioned a new server to migrate to — with 64GB of RAM and more than 400GB storage.
This machine costs us 48 Euro/month. At the moment, we are good with money, but will need to issue another call for donations later this year. We will let you know.
For now, though, we’d like to get some feedback from you. What do you think about this change?

@nanoelquant@c.im @xChaos@f.cz there is no technical reason. Char limits are more like a cultural marker than a technical barrier. The medium is not really designed for long form content, so 2000 already seems like a stretch.
📟 Hometown critical security upgrade
We've just completed a hometown upgrade after a critical bug was found in the mastodon software. The bug should be fixed now with the latest security release.

@esther@strangeobject.space yes, thx! we were also considering object storage. Let's see where this goes. At least for now --prune-profiles helps a lot.
📟 TLDR SERVER DOWN (´×ω×`)
So we had our first downtime last night while most of the mods were sleeping ;(
Mastodons media cache filled 99% of our HD over night and the database stopped responding.
This has now been resolved by two new commands mastodon shipped with the last version. These new commands have finally cleared over 47.3 GB of header and avatar images on our hard disk. ;)
#MastodonAdmin check:
$ tootctl media remove --days=2 --prune-profiles
$ tootctl media remove --days=2 --remove-headers
Unfortunately these new flags are not in the official docs yet. But any #MastodonAdmin who is looking to delete avatar and header images please check:
