Faith in humanity restored: I just watched a jogger and 3 cyclists herd a mama duck with half a dozen tiny ducklings off the busy rush hour bike path and into the creek below.
On my way cycling to The Pit, a car passed me and the two school-aged kids in the back seat singsonged something unintelligible and gave me gap toothed smiles and double thumbs up. I don’t know if it was for stopping to let someone use a crosswalk or general encouragement but I’ll take it!
It’s opening night of the musical theater production I’m playing in the pit for, and I have to say that playing in a pit orchestra is a unique and joyful experience, if a sweaty and ultimately unglamorous one.
On one hand, I enjoy petting cats who have the run of my very quiet neighborhood.
On the other hand, we are literally in a migratory bird sanctuary.

I’m also certain that he experiences racism on the daily, here there and everywhere.
It seems to me like people want to choose one of these things to be true but I think they are both true.
