@mollysinless@layer8.space the 12'' is less than a year old? The battery itself on their website is listed as 89$, and the laptop starts at 1.199$ for the intel variant. A similar specced laptop elsewhere will cost about the same too, as far as I can tell. At least from a reputable brand.
The main board of the new 13 pro is at least 500$ but probably 800$ if you want something better. I'm sure you can do the math on the rest of the components yourself, it is quite easy since they spell it out on the website.

@mollysinless@layer8.space while I understand being frustrated with a company, and even straight up disagreeing with them on every level, why spread lies and misinformation about them? What you have written here is simply not true. In many other devices, there is no battery upgrade path at all. That makes this not pointless, even if it was too expensive (but you're not required to do so either).
The old parts are not useless, even if you yourself find no use for them.

@nuintari@mastodon.bsd.cafe as someone who learned the inner workings of both protocols during my education, i do agree. not only is IPv6 not more complicated, it simplifies a lot of things too. even if we were to still be using NAT in the exact same way, there's still many areas where it's just simpler and better. it is faster on home networks where IPv4 is not used too, so everyone wins, really.
