Studied maths, work with code.
I mostly follow game-dev and gen-art folks.

@gregeganSF@mathstodon.xyz I wonder how much time it would take for a single satellite to generate enough energy by shining on solar farms to compensate for the fuel needed to get it into orbit

@yiningkarlli I find it hard to see what future the author envisions. Do they genuinely believe that with the current incentives an rewards, all the students will be using AI and yet somehow only those who use it "right" in some sense will become truly successfull? That puts a lot of trust on a system that's designed to benefit journals and istitutions –not students and "science"– to self regulate. It's also very convenient not to require too much effort on the educators and the system as a whole in supporting fresh minds navigating this changing landscape. I sometimes feel like using an LLM il like taking a cognitive loan, or a credit card. You get perceived benefits immediately and lose in the long term in experience and ability. The long term effects depend a lot on how secure your starting position is, and I'm afraid a large susceptible portion of the population will end up bankrupt. Just like the banks benefit from keeping poor people permanently in debt, tech companies are aiming to keep susceptible people in permanent cognitive dept. And who is the most susceptible? People with less confidence in their own abilities. With less free time to invest in reasining though problems rather than throwing an LLM at them. People with less support from similarly skilled relatives.

@b0rk@social.jvns.ca Windows might be a bit of a blind spont in this consideration. CMD and powershell are generally referred to as "the terminal" in a windows context, yet they follow very few of those conventions, save for those programs that just offer the same interface as in the other environments (like say python). I'm happy that at least with powershell we can use dashes for command flags instead of slashes :) Maybe you clarified in a previous post that windows is not included in your meaning of "the terminal". I think that it can be helpful to include it to understand what is fundamental when learning how to operate a terminal (things that are in common).
