@jimjamslam@aus.social I guess my question is how much of it is useful? It annoys me that ggplot by default adds colors (and ggplot's default palette, why is it so ugly?) to boxplots for the different boxes. It doesn't add any additional information (I can already see that they are different boxes and the axis labels tells me what they are) to what you would get in black and white. Sure, it is prettier but does the visual clutter get in the way of understanding the data trends? I think color can be powerful to bring out extra dimensions in your data, but when it is used to make the graphs prettier, often it just seems like repetitive visual clutter.
