I guess that’s a house-rule, but so is rebellion

@AmonTheMetalHead @fixatedpersonsunit Yeah I eventually de-googled a few years back, partly from using other apps, partly from switching the iPhone, which isn’t perfect, but isn’t Google.

@fixatedpersonsunit Great quote.
One of the most insidious travesties is advertising companies convincing people that personalised advertising is a good thing. No it’s not! It makes the ads more affective at psychologically nudging you towards an outcome that benefits the advertisers and their customers. It allows them the charge more money for that benefit. And it trains you to accept a very high level of advertising.
Turn off personalised ads and the pain you quickly feel from all the dross is what ads are really like.

@LadyDragonfly@universeodon.com @Burnt_Veggies@mstdn.social Heaps of horndogggery on BSSM though: “Suck My Kiss”, “Give it Away”, “BSSM”, but super horny are “Apache Rose Peacock”,- e.g., “drive’n down the boulevard/she was soft and I was hard” and “Sir Psycho Sexy”- e.g., “Popp’n ‘er up on the black and white/unzipped and slipped ‘Ooo that’s tight’”. Not sure anyone would get away with that song these days 😉 I guess this all is to say you’re right- depends on the song as much as anything.

M$ as a virulent pandemic: expand and explore in 200 words.
“Effective enough in the moment”, is the main point here- all security is theatre and can be more or less effective but the additive effects you promote really do add up. I certainly have some habits along these lines, and now and then a whole bunch of people around me are affected by some digital malaise yet not me, and while I generally assume luck is the most prominent reason why, I do like to think maybe it was something I did that helped keep me out of it.
But it’s all the majority who don’t have any idea about all of this, and who scoff and say “I have nothing to hide”, “I’m not doing anything wrong”, who I wonder about. One day they might, or a loved one, and maybe only because our democracies are overrun with fascists who were handed the keys to the digital kingdom upon democratic ascension.

@kevinrns@mstdn.social Sadly unsurprising to read about. I’ve long developed the tacit assumption that most of not all of these apps phone home as first point of business. Means your surprised to find out when they don’t, not when they do.

@ghostpanther To be honest, I think no film has made me laugh as hard 🤣 as Don’t Look Up while also making me cry so hard 😭. It is genius. It neatly conveys a hard breaking message I personally realised in the late 00s. We’re fucked, by our own hand. It was an emergency many years ago. It’s an atrocity now. But what canya do? 🤷♂️ (Goes back to grumbling in the darkened corner to eat mice stealing cheese)

@unitof@merveilles.town This is clearly a found-object comment on the vapid tinfoil consumerism of the fortnight-born, at once a light-hearted exposé of the emptiness at play within virtual worlds, while also a very serious promulgation against the monetisation of childhood fantasy into bite-sized loot boxes… or umm…
they’re just having a laugh trying to annoy their parents 🤣
