It's pretty much impossible to protect against bots scraping data on Mastodon, because users' posts are public by default.

What we can do is block servers that are known to be scraping data.... which is something we do to the best of our ability. Other than that, people can put their profiles to 'followers only', which provides a bit more security from mass data scrapers.

Thank you for the initiative, and for your work on verifying these accounts. It has been enraging and demoralizing to see grifters popping up online to try and profit off the genocide in Palestine, by playing upon the sympathies of those watching this massacre unfold in horror and despair at not being able to do anything to stop it.

We didn't defederate from this server initially, because we were keeping an eye on Flawed and his further descent down the rabbit hole of antisemitism. But you're right, there's not really any good reason to stay federated at this point. We will rectify that.

Since there are verified fundraisers (e.g. the list made by Igd mentioned above, but here on Mastodon there are also some others, with real people vouching for them), we could focus on these.

It's hard, because this means that connections into the community become an even more important privilege and that some real people will be kept outside.

Notwithstanding, there might be also legit chuffed.org fundraiser campaigns, because this seems like one of the few platforms that allow fundraisers for Gaza (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/6/26/as-gaza-starves-gofundme-accused-of-blocking-millions-of-dollars-raised).

Therefore, using chuffed.org does not indicate on it's own that it is a scam.

However, for the one you show in the screenshot, there seems to be more evidence for it being a scam, too: 😢

Thanks for the heads up. We've defederated from this instance. That said, in general, the best way of bringing our attention to a post, user or instance is by submitting a report. :)

There are several attempts at building unified block lists, which have produced various results. Here are some examples:

While we are supportive of attempts to share resources in this way, particularly as it relates to dealing with problems like nazis and 4chan-style discourse, white supremacy, queer/transphobia, misogyny and the sexualization and abuse of minors, we also find that the decentralized nature of Mastodon is one of its strengths, and recognize that different servers will have different approaches to moderation, and where to draw the line.

We don't have a copy of our block list publically available, but we would be happy to export it and share it with other instance admins.

To be clear, the moderators of Kolektiva all oppose Zionism, and the existence of the apartheid Israeli state. We support Palestinian self-determination, and are enraged and heartbroken by the ongoing genocide being perpetrated in Gaza, and Palestine more broadly.

That said, we will not follow you down the path of assigning culpability for the crimes of Zionism and the Israeli state onto all Jews. And we view Israel within the lens of established European settler-colonialism, not as a 'Nazi state', as you like to describe it. That has long been the point of disagreement between us, which we have attempted to discuss with you on multiple occasions. You have instead chosen to go further down the rabbit hole of antisemitism, focusing exclusively Jews as themselves being problematic and the sole actors in the issue, and ultimately we made the decision to kick you off our instance for it.

We realize that several current and former Kolektiva users have accused us of harboring 'Zionist sympathies', based on some of our moderation decisions and policies aimed at confronting antisemitism. For what it's worth, we also regularly get accused of antisemitism ourselves, based on other moderation decisions, policies, and for content we host in support of Palestinian resistance. While we don't particularly enjoy having others smear our politics with their own political biases, we also recognize that this is an unavoidable part of being moderators.

As we have said before, we strongly encourage you to take a look at where you're at, and where you are headed. Your views about Jews are not anarchist, and do nothing to support Palestinians. We will not be engaging with you further on this topic.
