Podverse update: @suorcd@podcastindex.social and have completed a lot kubernetes setup for the infrastructure.
It took me longer to figure out kubernetes than I had hoped, as there are a few more layers to it than how I traditionally have managed infrastructures, but the it should be a better and more powerful setup going forward.
Also, working on a “metaboost” service for collecting and displaying v4v boost messages, regardless of payment type. It will also collect and display stream payment events separately

Podverse Alpha update 🛠️
EXPERIMENTAL: USE AT OWN RISK
Bitcoin Lightning V4V transactions are live in Podverse alpha!
It supports the traditional "node" send approach with metadata for sending messages, and it also supports lnaddress, but does not yet support sending messages with lnaddress yet (it will just send an amount for now).
I tried sending a 1234 sats boost to @behindthesch3m3s@mk.spook.social and Podcasting 2.0 with mixed results...unsure if these failures are due to node issues, or buggy PV code.

Been a while since I've posted a Podverse update. I've been working on monorepo boilerplate, that is intended to be a "dream setup" for us to build out any additional applications used by Podverse quickly. It's a pretty damn big undertaking itself, but I think it'll be worth it for rapid development going forward.
As for PV itself, the web app and infrastructure is 90% finished. The mobile app has not begun yet. Hoping to have everything live for PV nextgen by summer.

@docdoo I will change the rate limit from 10 to 20 per hour. It's fairly important we rate limit this action to make it more difficult for people to spam our system unnecessarily.
Also, in the future, most of the podcasts you would search for will probably be added already, so I don't think it's likely you'll need to add so many per hour.

@UpBEATs I forgot I left that there 😅 those are just placeholders. I don't know if anything except Bitcoin Lightning Keysend is possible today.
But the tag can support multiple payment methods. The new infrastructure keeps that in mind so we can add additional boost options if available.

@docdoo yes that’s correct. Sorry, the data is completely separate. Hopefully the disclaimer popped up to explain any data on the Alpha site can be deleted.
Data migration from v1 to v2 will probably be one of the last parts of the development process. Until then, there will be no overlap between them.

@taoeffect I need to make that UX smoother.
"Add Feed" should navigate you to the Podcast page after it starts parsing. From there, you can subscribe to it.
Maybe we should auto-subscribe whoever adds the feed, since that is an expected behavior?
Also, that blank screen should have a message to explain why it is blank (you're not subscribed to anything yet). Thanks for the report

@taoeffect our new search will search the Podcast Index directly, and then if you want to add it to Podverse, there is an "Add Feed" button.
We're doing this to drastically reduce the size of our database. Old Podverse has millions of podcasts and hundreds of millions of episodes, and it's very heavy and unnecessary.
This is one of the major optimizations for the new version.

Besides bugs fixes, our next focus is to finish the Livestreams page.
Then we will add Videos and Music.
These should be fairly easy to add because they will reuse components and endpoints for the existing pages.
After that, I am thinking we'll add push notifications for livestreams.
Then enabling Boost / V4V functionality.

The Podverse Alpha website is now live!
This is a work-in-progress, public demo of the upcoming Podverse "2.0".
The new Podverse is designed, from the ground up, to support as many Podcasting 2.0 features as possible.
Functionality is limited right now, but the core is there.

@chrisamoody I think so? I've made like 4 Electron apps but haven't used it in a few years.
Do you have any ideas for what the benefits of an Electron app would be? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is we could make it easier to download episodes from desktop.
Another benefit would be we can get around CORS restrictions so we can parse RSS feeds in browser, but we're planning a server-side solution for that so CORS shouldn't be a problem in PV2.0.

@rgblack316 good question. We will be migrating as much data as we can from the old system to the new system, and we'll take special precautions not to break existing embeds.
That said I'm not 100% sure yet how we are going to handle the migration. It'll be a huge task in itself, and I'm kinda mentally saving it for last 😬 we'll have PV2.0 in a beta environment for a while before finally making the switch.

PV2.0 status update:
The goal of this infrastructure is to support ALL podcasting 2.0 features, and full feature parity between web and mobile.
Work on the new database and parser system is mostly finished.
Progress on the data API is going well. Added basic channel and item (aka podcast and episode) endpoints, and a new auth system for login.
The improved separation of concerns of Podverse modules (10 REPOS 😳) has made coding PV2.0 much cleaner and easier.
