Anyway there’s an energy drink that I like, and a different one my partner who also travels likes. Two to a large ziploc, I’ve had maybe two leak in over a decade so maybe 600 or more made the trip?

@MissConstrue@mefi.social I vehemently dislike the word ‘hero’. It feels like something American culture enshittified hard over the past several decades. About the only phrase it even makes sense anymore is “never meet your hero’s” For me, though, Sam is the one true paladin. Lawful good. Sam is aspirational as a spirit, as a soul, as a beacon. Samwise isn’t exactly attainable but, like the cultural impact of Mr Rogers, approachable and knowable. Sams never get their due but truly are heroic.

@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io nope. It just feels, to me, all downside for the reasons you’ve mentioned. I have cause to pickup my phone regularly and am not going to be fussed with positioning it just so just to get inefficient charging.

That being said I do use a wireless charger everyday…. Because I have an old set of AirPod pros and my last remaining lightning cable died and I refuse to buy more.

Whether that’s financially or by reputation I’m not sure what the model would look like. It might be possible if the problem was sufficiently scoped - ie just a kernel on static hardware that could still be affordable manufactured in 25 years.

What I do have direct experience with is estimating concrete construction projects. Think sidewalks, paving, airport runways. But not on bridges or overpasses.

Locally industry standard for sidewalk is a 2 year holdback for warranty work. After two years you correct any deficiencies to collect the last 2%. Municipalities will require bonding to be eligible to bid. Your bonding agent is your most important “supplier”.

For bridges, owned by the province, warranty periods are at least 25 years. The bonding is so expensive and comes with so much overhead it isn’t worth bidding on. Could we have? Sure. Would we have been a solid contender? Sure. But in the meantime we could have secured work pouring kilometres of sidewalk in new subdivisions with significantly less hassle. Just one reason why those projects are so astoundingly expensive.

@thomasfuchs love it. More practically - if it’s end-of-life’d and isn’t opened then at the very least those products should be recalled and/reimbursed as breach of [implied] contract.
