Always two inches away from putting a mega rant post on LinkedIn, considering the timeline is so full of crap, empty-sounding words, bizarroid tangents, and flat out bullshit claims.

Examples today (quotes omitted):

- A humanoid robot powered by AI has converted to Buddhism
- We're moving away from SaaS and into Intelligence-as-a-Service
- (a dozen FUD posts about cyber security)
- (a dozen posts with infuriating AI-generated pictures, go ahead and show me you are a lazy ass)

LinkedIn is that place that makes the most toxic corporation look like an inclusive therapy group.

In other slightly related notes, what got us is the convenience of doing a lot of things seamlessly, easily, all online, without having to go anywhere.

This freedom is now being taken back under the argument of "security" (in all its facets, like securing your account, safeguarding your kids, etc.), with big vendors forcing you to use this validation technique or this authentication method.

Don't be surprised if some people start pushing back and get back to good old "analog" ways of working and start quitting "en masse" the big tech platforms of this brave new idiocratic world.

I learned with great interest today about Meshtastic / Meshcore (I didn't knew about this at all until this morning).

I'm always enthusiastic for those sort of projects. And then I think about how can I apply this to my daily life, and I bump against a deeply non-technical partner with an aversion for anything that isn't practical, and two teenagers who seem absolutely uninterested by letting go off their phones, despite criticizing the "big corps" (all while hanging on Instagram and TikTok, btw).

Advice welcome, but don't think this is an endeavor with a future in this household.

What a busy extended weekend. I hope I can say more soon (not like there's anything super exciting) but after a long and fruitful day with my wife in Altenberg (10km walk + 2 hours at the local thermal spa), back home and helping my 15 year old with his photographic work (he took the 1938 Contax III and a Zeiss-Opton Biogon 35/2.8 + Ilford HP5+ for his year end project).

At the same time, looks like our near 14 year old just arrived in Denmark for his school exchange.

The week ahead will be grueling, so will the next one - we need to vacate everything in our first floor to make room for wooden floor replacement and need to move out again.

Time to go sleep, because The Lord of the Rings is awaiting me (and this time reading my original French edition from Bourgois Editions, on deluxe print, not the modern translation with its incomprehensible location names).

In the middle of a home renovation project. Having fun* (*really) filling up excel sheets with costs, things to purchase, where to move money from, who to pay when, etc. while also dealing with suppliers. This is cool.

@upmultimedia Hey, not from Melbourne (Prague, CZ is a bit farther away I guess) but I've used 120mm (6x6) positive film back in the day on my Pentacon Six, specifically Fujichrome Velvia 50. I love the looks of it, it's just a tad more on the expensive side (if I recall) and I've always been more on the B&W / self-development stuff. Basically, it just worked the same way as taking photos with monochrome or other color film, the only difference being that instead of going for negative C41 process (for color) it would go to a lab for C6 processing if I'm not mistaken. I'd get the lab to provide me scans as well, although I also had a capable scanner to handle that back in the day. Sent my wife's old & no longer active Wix website to /dev/null and closed our account.

Even a couple months after redirecting all DNS records to a new different site (hosted somewhere else) I find it amazing (or perhaps not) that typical Wix SEO spammers would still reach out.

At least it was a useful reminder to say good riddance.

One of the most rewarding things I did since beginning of 2026 was to renovate a stylish but worn out IKEA VARDE kitchen shelf by sanding it and painting it in RAL 7038. I also sanded & polished the drawer handles.

Excellent way to spend time, and useful as well. I also painted two IKEA stools I had around, the set looks quite neat and will pair nicely with our future home interior.

This is so much more rewarding than any IT work, and I could see myself doing more of this in the future.

We had relatively heavy construction work going on at our place last week (heavy as in lots of dust & dirt we had to clean out upon our return, even if we had cleaning done before we returned).

Part of the cleanup was removing a wall mount where I have 11 medals of various "The Conqueror Challenges" I did over the year, with multiple virtual walk / hike / cycling tours, for quite some distance.

I almost thought of making a bullshit philosophical post about it on LinkedIn, but then I thought hey, who cares anyway, and it's not like I can plug 10 B2B sales tips into it, so here's a random Mastodon toot for your enjoyment and sarcasm.

Side note: the country is definitely not socialist by any account and is definitely a Western Europe capitalist economy.

After 13 years in the pharma sector (first at Novartis, then at Sandoz) my contract ends on 30-Jun-26.

@jonny @sfoskett I'm absolutely nowhere near your experience here (likely 50 underground floors) but I tried to build a little something to track some of my projects & digital independence stuff (moving to open-source / self-hosted stuff, cleaning up online "attack surface"). What worked relatively well with Sonnet-4.6 turned into a "let's build and troubleshoot how I deploy apps to my Synology container environment" thing on Opus-4.6, with lots of assumptions, improper code or fantasized commands, me fixing stuff in the Makefile, cross-platform compilation errors (arm64 vs amd64) etc. Ended up reverting most of it. On the other hand, working on the capabilities I wanted to improve on the vibe-coded app worked out well. And yes, that whole endeavor could've been an Excel file, but I wanted to give a try at Claude's coding capabilities.

@sfoskett @jonny the definition of my Monday evening trying to achieve something with Claude. It's really like a gambling machine: gets you hooked, does 80% well, then you spend hours fixing stuff over stuff and, if not careful, implementing tweak over tweak, sometimes without any meaning.
