I installed the #DuckDuckGo browser on my phone the other day and turned off the AI feature. I feel so much better browsing the #Internet already. I get to find actual human written sources again and I get to go deeper into the rabbit holes and wander through more paths of thought when that stupid AI summary isn't there to distract me anymore with its biases and all its nonsense.

@georgetakei@universeodon.com I'm kinda worried about everything that happens in Hungary once Orban loses. I have a feeling that he will not go gentle into that good night.

@lichess@mastodon.online I'm in an on and off relationship with chess, but when it's on, Lichess is a big part of it. You're doing great work. Thank you for that.

@robin Yup. The problem isn't our devices. It's the choice of content and format. The fact that people spend so much time mindlessly staring at short video clips, and endlessly scrolling through low-effort content, is a big win for algorithm-based hypercapitalism.
Meanwhile, these devices could be used to listen to long, in-depth podcasts, or read novels, short stories, poems, or sketch, or keep a journal, or whatever you can think of. Why have short videos and doom-scroll-content taken over these computers in our pockets that were science fiction twenty years ago!?

@georgetakei@universeodon.com This is probably the first time that a US president starts a war without parliamentary approval, merely as a personal 'Get rich quick' scheme, and everybody seems to just say, 'Well, whaddaya gonna do?' 🤷🏾♂️

@georgetakei 77% of young Americans have nothing to worry about as they are unfit to serve due to issues such as obesity, diabetes, substance use, or lack of sufficient school education resulting in them failing the aptitude tests. It's not 1970 anymore.

@reading_recluse@c.im I admit to having created songs with AI, pictures with AI, code with AI, clips of video with AI, everything more out of curiosity than nothing else. But generating text with AI, where is the fun in that...? AI generated text gives me that immediate uncanny valley effect more so than video, music, or pictures. I've quit buying the Sunday edition of a certain newspaper because reading some articles I was sure there's AI involved there. If I got that feeling reading a novel, what a disappointment that would be.
