I joined MSTDN.ca last year, and I have enjoyed and appreciated this community.
As it has gained users, performance and reliability are impacted.
The admin, @chad@mstdn.ca, is a volunteer, and does his best. But, donations have struggled to meet the demand of costs, and the threat looms of MSTDN.ca going away at some point.
I'm ready to move forward with my own Mastodon instance, and my volunteer IT person is helping me do that.

I'm about to go into a meeting where mom is trying to expand her visits with her children.
Child welfare apprehended her children.
Contact between mom and children is underwhelming and constricted to the point of perhaps traumatizing children.
In my opinion, CW should always invest in meaningful and robust visits.

We at The Coalition For Justice and Human Rights DO NOT depend on or access casino funding.
However, many vital Edmonton charities do, and this move undermines this critical funding stream.
I personally believe this is all about a rural-focused provincial government pandering to their rural base.
The casino will be in Edmonton, but rural charities will benefit instead.

It is frustrating that we have First Nations persons in remand custody, and Health Canada will not fund residential treatment for these types of folks unless they are in the community.
The whole issue of over-representation by First Nations in custodial institutions can be addressed with more understanding by our Federal Government. In my opinion. #cdnpoli

Taking a young man to the hospital this evening.
He has been on the streets for the last 4 months.
He has a fever of over 40 and seems dehydrated.

My day was spent moving a young couple with a newborn.
Both parents have no financial support and have not done their taxes, so they don't have child tax credit funds.
There was lots of work to do.

I finished at the library and helped at the Edmonton Food Bank with my practicum student before finishing the day.

My practicum student and I are on our way to meet a houseless mother at the library who had to take her children to stay with family so they could be safe.
Things need to change so families can stay safe together.

Looking for a homeless youth who left her insulin in my car. She doesn't have a phone, thus hitting all the regular hangouts she visits.

Yesterday, I had a horrific meeting with Children Services. I was there supporting a Mom whose children are in care.
Bio mom states that the father sexually assaulted their child. The father was charged. Charges later Stayed.
At the meeting, the psychologist stated Mom made false claims, though police and Zebra felt the assault did happen.
In my opinion, CW should have never allowed this meeting to proceed.

I took a family out for lunch. They had just moved into a subsidized housing program after waiting five years.
They used my truck.
I don't have the knees anymore for this, but they had the lifting part covered.

I won't go into detail, but a man charged with a serious and violent crime killed himself within the last two months.
I believe, in part, that the stigma and publicity drove him to this tragic end.
There always needs to be serious consequences for violent actions.
However, empathy and support need to be part of the solution as well.
