I've argued, but never gotten any employer on board with, that code review should never be treated as a means of identifying bugs or security concerns. It's nice if that happens. But it's not the point.

Code review exists for two reasons: (1) to onboard newcomers to the code base and make them aware of standards and what is in the tool chest and (2) to keep senior developers aware of the evolution of the code base outside their areas of expertise.

That it. That's all code review is good for.

@Miredly@raru.re Reading the Mythos doc that Anthropic put out was a good reminder to me of just how far off the rails that entire group has gone from reality. They really think their linear algebra soup is some kind of sentience. And yeah. You built a random number generator that you don't understand, and then after the fact tried to tell it to not generate certain numbers.

Was looking at a webinar on burn out and started thinking: if more than half of your career has been a struggle to be motivated to clock in each morning, is it really burn out? Or is it just capitalism.

I would probably find learning modern PHP a pain, the only reason I've kept up with all the new features over the years was the fact that I was carried along from 4, 5, to 7 and 8 over a period of decades.

I actually have a soft spot in my heart for C, it was one of the first languages I learned. And I never could quite make the jump to C++ because... just too many features. I like the idea of succinct languages.

Unfortunately, most of what I do with computers, doesn't really need system type languages. I always get stuck just making demos. But maybe just making demos is what I need to do these days.

Wanted to pick a new programming language to do a deep dive into, was thinking about giving Rust another shot but after reading Zig's strict no LLM policy (https://ziglang.org/code-of-conduct/#strict-no-llm-no-ai-policy) my interest has suddenly shifted.

I am enjoying the realization about how well my gardening habits align with the equinoxes. I don’t need a calendar, just these two days.

Today is the first day of spring, which aligns with harvesting winter tubers and starting my indoor nursery seeds over the next two weeks so they will be ready to transplant outdoors in 60 days near the end of May.

The Fall equinox is my signal that the season is done. Harvest what’s left. Ferment, ferment, ferment! Put away the tools. Mulch winter tubers.
