@ahelwer@discuss.systems @arianvp@functional.cafe With regard to the USB version of a security key breaking off: Yubico also produces a (somewhat expensive) nano version of the Yubikey which has a very small form factor. That cannot break off, but is also easier to loose I guess. I'm also somewhat underwhelmed by the number of servers/websites that offer security-key authentication. Seems like TOTP is finally somewhat standard (but still not enough), but only a handful of servers offer security-key authentication AFAIK.

Weirdest part of all is that the European Commission (EC) keeps allowing member states to set up border controls, while is is very clear this conflicts with the Schengen agreement. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? The EC should be the party that brings such infringements to the Court of Justice of the EU. I hope the German court will ask preliminary questions to the EU Court to get this over with ASAP.

Pitch voor een blog: moeten we als maatschappij niet veel meer nadenken over manieren om gelekte persoonsgegevens minder waardevol te maken?

Criminelen kopen zoals ik het begrijp die gegevens online vooral om identiteitsfraude te plegen, maar dat kan alleen maar omdat we in de maatschappij vaak waardeloze methoden hebben om iemand te identificeren.

Aan de telefoon vragen stellen als 'Wat is uw geboortedatum' lijkt mij totaal zinloos na alle datalekken. Waarom mag het dan nog?

@steely_glint @EUCommission @raccoon That might be the thesis, but that broker can be forced to disclose information or even be used as platform by intelligence agencies without the broker knowing. Bottom line there is no way to verify age without disclosing identity. It's simply impossible. And for what? For some vague argument that the EU is better at protecting children than parents are, without any proof of that.

This system will lead to function creep and it's a matter of time until member state XYZ thinks it is good idea to checkup on what user on a social media platform was not positive about a government leader. We all know this is not OK and 'what about the children' is more often misused that really true.

This is not OK and a breach of the EU charter (again). Function creep has always existed and will also exist in the future. @MennoOng@waag.social Dat is uiteindelijk een overkoepelend kenmerk van populisten als Trump. Er is historisch gezien een groep van 20-30% van de bevolking die steeds opnieuw wil geloven in de sprookjes van een populist.

Ongelooflijk, omdat het zo duidelijk is dat Trump een oplichter is, maar blijkbaar werkt(e) het. Eindelijk komt er nu inderdaad enigszins inzicht dat het allemaal nergens op slaat.

Zwak betoog met een teleurstellende conclusie, waarin uiteindelijk niet of nauwelijks wordt beschreven wat er dan zo gevaarlijk zou zijn aan het beschrijven van de politiek van Trump, Orbán, Meloni etc. als fascistisch of postfascistisch of neofascistisch.

Je ziet zelden vanwege zo'n principieel punt iemand een cassatieverzoek indienen. Wel goed dat het is gedaan (eindelijk). Ook jammer dat de kantonrechter niet meteen zelf prejudiciele vragen had gesteld, dat had veel tijd en moeite gescheeld.

Misschien had je het al gezien, maar de Hoge Raad heeft vorige week prejudiciële vragen gesteld aan het HvJ EU over 'kopietje paspoort' in het kader van de Wwft. De HR lijkt niet overtuigd te zijn dat die verplichting uit de Wwft of AMLD volgt. @bert_hubert@mastodon.nl Gelukkig heeft nooit iemand serieus voorgestel om de Belastingdienst te privatiseren en splitsen in een aantal Belastingdiensten met een eigen merknaam die met elkaar concurreren. En de brandweer, de politie, gevangenissen, drinkwaterbedrijven etc. Ergens snappen ze in Den Haag wel dat er grenzen zijn. Alleen ligt die grens ergens anders dan je hoopt.
