lol you weren’t kidding… the docs about how to set it up as a service in linux is a 30+ comment issue spanning 5 years.

You can only rely on ready availability for certain shows/movies that are popular at the moment. Lots of stuff fades away over time. There’s some shows/movies that sit in the download queue for months (or still counting) for lack of seeds, and re-searching finds nothing. Sometimes even finding a single torrent is difficult or impossible. My Wanted lists in sonarr/radarr have many items where no torrent is ever found. Nobody is interested in them I guess. I’m sure they’re out there somewhere. Once I finally get my hands on them, I will only want to delete if it’s crap. I’d say about half my collection is fairly easy to replace and the other half was some kind of effort/luck to track down and might not be found again. And I don’t feel like watching things right away after I get them, or doing work and waiting every time I want to watch something. Sometimes I hear about media, download it, then don’t watch for a while. But it’s fine not to keep drives full of media if you don’t want to. Especially now with streaming torrents and stuff, it is very flexible. If your taste is coinciding with people who seed torrents, then you are in luck. There have been millions of TV shows and movies produced, it is much broader. And I guess it is kind of a hobby. :)

can I take the audio track from a video in one language and use it to replace the audio on a different file?

I’m trying to reduce the size of my video collection because I’m running out of storage. My strategy is to look for smaller sized files to replace very large ones. When that fails, I am using handbrake to rencode. Its working, but very slowly due to my ancient computer. Redownloading is the much faster method. Some titles, which were originally released as non-english, have existing small files, but the English audio is only available less commonly as a huge file. Is it possible to redownload the non-english video and map the English audio onto it? It might be too much fooling around to get syncing correct. Extra question, does anybody know how to set up sonarr/radarr to try to reduce filesize automatically? Ive been doing all the downloading by hand.

Yes but all my services work in my LAN even if I am not connected to the outside world. Obviously not fully functional, but everything runs.

I don’t really like the idea of having a separate IP for every service. It would need to be configured in the service itself (assuming that is possible for all of them, I don’t know), on the router, and by whatever means you create IPs. Too complex. A lot of people are recommending caddy. All my web services use apache or lighttd. Do I use caddy just for this or do I have to figure out how to move each of them to use this web server? Also does it work for non-web services, like ssh or samba? (Which wasn’t in my original question, I only thought of it now.)

A lot of people are recommending caddy. When you say “on each device” you mean this configuration would refer to the services running on that device right? Not that every client device needs to have this set up? All my web services use apache or lighttd. Do I use caddy just for this or do I have to figure out how to move each of them to use this web server? Also does it work for non-web services, like ssh or samba? (Which wasn’t in my original question, I only thought of it now.)

If your ISP won’t give you IPv6 how can my ISP influence this on my home network that has no external access?

what's the simple way to map services to subdomains instead of specifying the port number?

I have a bunch of services running on my LAN, mostly from a single Debian machine. I access them at URLs like devicename.lan:portnumber. I would like to change to servicename.devicename.lan. How it works now: The router (openwrt) sets a static IP per device and the port number is selected by the application or system unit running it. What is the absolute simplest way to accomplish this? I don’t mind if it is managed by the router or by the server machine itself. Hoping for something that can be configured with a text file or web interface or other basic mathod. These sevices are private, just for me and I have no plans to ever access them externally. I have so far avoided any certificates or SSL or other stuff. I don’t use docker and would rather not get into it right now. I like my domain name setup how it is with fake local domains. Hoping this could be possible without making a whole project out of it.

Not what you were asking, but delta chat is an app that turns email into chat. Same premise. I use the f droid store as a launcher almost more than I use my launcher’s native feature when I have to use an app thats not on the home screen. I can’t remember the weird names people give their projects so I just search for what I need and open whatever is already installed. I use bitwarden password manager to keep notes about websites because it loads in the sidebar according to URL automatically. (More useful on desktop than mobile.)

Yesterday I went to read a review on a show and when you click to read past the preview you hit a wall asking for an account (and in my recollection a payment). Must be a recent change.

I hit the same wall as OP yesterday but found myself on tvtropes instead which now has about 20 tabs open.
