Unironically, this happens a lot on the tech world. There's a problem where a lot of programmers/tech engineers ended up becoming managers due more out of the career than what he want to do.

On a lot of older fields like Civil, Electrical, Mechanical... you can find Engineers getting paid more than their managers due expertise and experience but in tech, you rarely have a progression after Senior Programmer, so you have to become an white-collar worker to get a better pay and do something outside of what you want
