A vintage computer shop advertisement from 1986, extolling the advantages of software rental, err, software PREVIEW. Software Pipeline grew to locations throughout Oregon and beyond and featured a librarianesque mascot named Jerome D. Bug. I believe the software publishers sued Software Pipeline out of existence and it disappeared before the millennium. Because of CI/CD and modern software development engineering techniques, trying to find information on "Software Pipeline" can be a tough challenge.

I lucked out and found this ad featuring Jerome and the company logo on the USPTO website.

In the SF Bay Area for the funeral of a friend. Oh nice, while on I-80 West in San Francisco I look over and see a half-torn down billboard ad for SCO Unix. Must be at least 25 years old at this point. Didn’t get a chance to snap a pic.

Remember PC resto-modders and enthusiasts, when installing Windows98 on new old hardware, copy the WIN98 directory from the CD to C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS and install from that directory, making sure that the installer installs to C:\WINDOWS despite the directory already existing.

IMHO Zenith is definitely the stronger slapper of the two if you need to choose a ringtone for your flip phone.

@secretasianman@types.pl I read it and enjoyed it. Definitely a different era. Perhaps if there's a resurgence of right-to-repair, maybe it might come back. I sometimes think that Louis Rossmann carried some of that spirit with his crew, albeit now moved out of New York.

When I was a kid in the ancient times, I would rent software from Software Pipeline. I was really pleased to have that as a resource.

Its mascot was named Jerome D Bug and due to an unfortunately popular name (Hello CI/CD builders and DevOps gurus), information on it is pretty sparse.

Were they sued out of existence? What happened in the end?

I had a dream where I was picking up a lot of tangerine clamshell iBooks and tangerine G4 towers. I left the tangerine iMacs but circled back to find Alps keyswitch tangerine extended keyboards too. I now have a subtle desire to build a fabled tangerine & white G4 tower
