Do the Greens have any policy on big tech imperialism and US taking over our digital infrastructure. Has any party said anything about these social media bans and if they too want age verification? Is the India FTA good? Or is it like US FTAs that just further entrench US imperialism. Also which party is going after the billionaires or is that not NZs fight. Because we have problem forgetting our own citizens to the point they're paying for starlink they're saying it's expensive and they also feel bad cause Elon.

@pluralistic@mamot.fr had a very interesting point on @democracynow@campaign.openworlds.info Something along the lines of "We can'tbuy ourselves out of a monopoly." I like to think the purchasing power of consumers in a free market could take down some of these huge corporations but I guess the point is there are systemic issues that need systemic policies to address them. And unsubscribing from Prime isn't a systemic approach.

The solutions at the end make sense. Break up monopolies. More privacy protections. We also need to regulate the algorithms. And they need to be transparent.

I've told my colleagues they must cease using Chrome and after some hesitation most have realized it wasn't that hard to switch to Firefox!

I'm not getting any comms from internet NZ. Lifetime member. Says my password is incorrect. No emails to my email. Password reset doesn't even send me an email. I'm running mailinabox in Catalyst Cloud and yea because scammers and big tech imperialism sometimes I'm "spam" and it takes ages for me to get an email but regardless I used to get emails from InternetNZ. I guess more concerning is the free speech racist union and idk are they part of why I can't log in and am not getting comms?

Love that Karen Hao mentioned us in an @democracynow@campaign.openworlds.info interview but actually Amy prompted the Kōrero with an earlier article about us. Maybe one day we'll do something meaningful enough to be on Democracy Now. My dad always listened to Democracy Now on our local public access radio station.

Now that we have large scale data theft. And people are even ripping community tax payer funded content and putting it in Big Tech social media platforms. Are there any efforts for a non proprietary DRM for pretty anyone who wants to prevent communities from being taken advantage of? Yes proprietary DRM serves big corporate who profit off of eg taking the stories of the pacific (Moana). But now even little people like us and slightly larger but relatively little Māori TV are having Kapa Haka content taken and published on colonial platforms.

Sorry rant over. Is there any legit and easy ways to implement DRM that doesn't require paying a third party, and will the (mainstream) browsers do their thing?

I'm struggling to find any good literature on this on the web. But I plan to open and document whatever solution we come up with because it's how we take back control over our digital society. Would love any pointers or help.

How many millions do we spend on digital services to entrench the coffers of the people who put this administration in charge? We have to fight this in every little corner we can. I can't imagine it's just AI. It's them cleverly and creatively using AI, probably OpenAI, to tell some pretty good truths about Trump and his regime. It's hilarious that they're using the American's own tech against them. But, I doubt OpenAI cares because they're still profiting off of this type of content.

@fluffykittycat @camertron 💯 . Which is the other problem. It's a negative feedback loop (positive for the empires). Cost of living high. People don't have any option BUT to work for Amazon (owns everything) and the cycle continues. And we think if only democracy could solve this problem...

Only 3 articles in this is such a great issue. They introduced me to Phil Ochs and in doing so I've learnt more about the Vietnam war and how really nothing has changed since. I didn't learn in High School that the US was propping up an authoritarian leader in the south and that even the US knew a democratic vote would be won by the north.

But it was sad to learn how he died at a young age from mental health. But the authors reflection of this posited perhaps because he was so invested in justice and perhaps took politics too hard that may have contributed to his depression. And it made me reflect on empathy. Is too much of it detrimental? Is it just part of our biology that empathy is a spectrum and for some we have too much and for others none at all? And is that inevitable?

So the articles are so informative but also so reflective that the readers starts reflecting. Anyway highly recommend. $60USD a year for 6 issues mailed to you even here in Aotearoa. Very good independent journalism esp. if you like socialism I recommend Current Affiars.
