Today I went to #NoKings protests in downtown San Jose and in Sunnyvale along El Camino Real, which appropriately enough for this event means the royal road.
I saw a lot of people, and talked with a few. The variety I saw gives me hope.
As people drove by, many shared their support by honking, waving, showing signs and flags. I tried to wave back and share a thumbs up with those who did.
I realized that some in the cars might not otherwise be able to join us. Some had small children. A few had handicap placards. One passenger appeared to have Downs syndrome; I could tell he was glad to be there, and I'm glad he was too.
Everyone I saw is an American.

I had tried the GasBuddy app, but after I uninstalled it I kept getting email (spam) from them.
I requested they they delete my data. It was an onerous process. Today, nine days later, they sent a message confirming that my personal data has been deleted.
If you care at all about your data privacy--or at least not getting spammed into perpetuity--please avoid the GasBuddy app.

I'm often reminded of this, now 100 years old:
"Seven Social Sins is a list by Frederic Donaldson that Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi published in his weekly newspaper Young India on 22 October 1925. Later he gave this same list written on a piece of paper to his grandson, Arun Gandhi, on their final day together shortly before his assassination.
Gandhi listed the sins as:
Wealth without work.
Pleasure without conscience.
Knowledge without character.
Commerce without morality.
Science without humanity.
Religion without sacrifice.
Politics without principle."

Today on LinkedIn I received another solicitation from a recruiter with Insight Global, this time for a job title that I hadn't had since starting my career and starting college.
I'm eagerly looking for work, but this job was not just inequitable, presenting me with it was insulting and a waste of my time.
I block contacts from Insight Global without replying to them.
If I could block everyone associated with Insight Global, I would.

Congressman Ro Khanna via Bluesky today:
“Congress is not powerless. Democrats must unify around an actual agenda.
-
Vote no on DHS funding bill.
-
Repeal the multi-year $75 billion funding for ICE.
-
End qualified immunity for ICE agents.
-
Investigate and prosecute every single ICE agent who broke the law.”
“5. Impeach Noem and Bondi.
-
End the Kavanaugh stops with racial profiling and end the militarization of ICE.
-
Codify a use of force standard so courts can enforce the law against rogue ICE agents.
-
Tear down and replace ICE with an agency that has oversight.”
“Trump is engaged in the SYSTEMATIC destruction of the rule of law.
Only if Congress fights with every legal tool at our disposal including lawsuits in the courts, like we are doing with the Epstein files, can we stop this madness.”
“We owe that to nurse Pretti and the hundreds of thousands on the streets risking their lives to stand up for our freedoms.”

Techy friends in the SF Bay Area:
The 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will be held January 5-7 in Las Vegas, as usual.
On January 30, several Bay Area IEEE groups (including CNSV, which I chair) are hosting an in-person event in Sunnyvale to review the big show, free for IEEE members and $10 for others.
