@julieofthespirits@kolektiva.social I'm not sure that deplatforming and archiving need necessarily be at odds. I think there's probably ways in which it's important to be archiving even current fascist texts, it's still important to know your enemy. They can get away with a lot of sneaky things if we don't record what they've said. But then an archive isn't the same thing as a platform I suppose. Usually one goes to an archive because they're already trying to find something, but a platform actively spreads it to new audiences. I guess that's an important difference

@julieofthespirits@kolektiva.social Part of my academic pet peeve with definitions of fascism that rely too heavily on the particularities and policy of 1940s consolidated fascist states, because they were still fascist before they took complete control! If they had never took control and remained solely a paramilitary force, we would still need a way to discuss the fascist ideology without state policy as reference. You want a way to recognize them *before* they can build a fascist state death machine! (and a surprising amount of their actual state policy was ad-hoc "whatever keeps us in power and lets us achieve our ideological goals" so I don't think it's the best defining characteristic)
